Nyirenda names final team to face Algeria

Wedson Nyirenda has named his final 24-member team for Zambia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier doubleheader against Algeria.

Zambia will host Algeria on September 2 in Lusaka and later fly to Algeria after the game for the final leg to be played on September 5 in Constantine.

Nyirenda has included four Zambia Under-20 stars who won the 2017 U20 AFCON as hosts last March and went on to reach the quarterfinals of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea in June.

The picked Under-20 players are midfielder Enock Mwepu and Emmanuel Banda plus strikers Patson Daka and Fashion Sakala.

The quartet have made the cut from the seven initial Under-20 call-ups.

Swedish-based midfielder Edward Chilufya will miss both legs after failing to file in time for his Algerian visa for the return leg on Tuesday evening.

Dropped is the Nkana defensive duo of Moses Nyondo and Boston Muchindu.

But the major senior players dropped are Fwayo Tembo and his Lusaka Dynamos clubmate Clatous Chama.

Fwayo in particular has been axed just two days after joining camp when he rescinded his decision to snub his Zambia recall.

Zambia head into the match on 1 point from two games, tied with Algeria.

Cameroon are 2nd on 2 points ahead of Fridays clash away in Uyo against leaders and hosts Nigeria who lead on 6 points.

  1. Fwayo and Nyirenda are getting miles apart. Could it be that Nyirenda fears bad influence on the other players or it is “I put you where you belong!” C’mon guys you ca do better than this for the sake of team glory.

    • Almost new look Zambian side. We will fill the stadium but we don’t want politics at the stadium. Political leaders kindly watch the game from your homes.

  2. Solid team. I’m liking Wada… home work remains at the technical side, ammunition we have…

  3. The team looks good. All that is left is for them to win both at home and away. God bless Zambia!

  4. wada you are taking things too person, let me tell you what goes around comes around,we now know that just hate FWAYO and CLATUS, fwayo is a very good player who can make Algeria panic than what you have done, should you fell to collect maximum points you be fired my friend.

  5. I think we need a foreign coach now than later, zambian coaches hate good players like LUBAMBO MUSONDA, EMMANUEL MBOLA, FWAYO, and CLATUS, i appeal to FAZ seriously to the expell wada.

  6. Fwayo was called to the National team, but he snubbed the call, thats being indispline.
On Clatus Chama I think wada should think twice and forgive the man.

  7. Good team, I like fwayo Bt I don’t support indiscipline in the team, we hv so many, bwana coach continue with discipline that’s wht we ar lucking

  8. Fwayo is a good player on the pitch and was going to make a difference in the Algeria match tomorrow. I was on Fwayo’s side the last time he had a rift with Nyirenda. However, this time around I support the decision Nyirenda has made, in fact, I would have taken the same direction had I been in his position. Fwayo is very unpredicted and unreliable. We need discipline in team. Fwayo is no bigger than Chipolopolo. Well done Nyirenda, this should be a case study for any player in future.

  9. I support the coach for the decision he made on fwayo…fwayo if you have money better you stay away from the team than putting more bp in pipos life

  10. Pliz wada zambia first your personal issues with players second as long as they are able to perform you’ve to include them or u may be digging yo grave

  11. That guy Ngonga what a miss he seem to jittery at goal he cant compare with Patson Daka. If he cant change replace him with another under 20 player
