Govt spits ‘ fire ‘ on contractor in Nsama District

Share

Government says it will not take kindly to any contractor who will fail to execute works according to its expectations.

Northern Province permanent secretary Jobbicks Kalumba says   a number of civil servants deployed to Nsama  District were still staying in grass thatched rented houses owing  to failure by the contractor to complete the construction of houses in the district.

Dr. Kalumba said the situation has also compromised quality of  Government’s service delivery to the public and workers respect to the community.

The Provincial permanent Secretary said this this when he met officers at the ministry of local Government and a local contractor who allegedly abandoned a multi-million housing unity project for Nsama district council workers.

He explained that the situation prompted him to follow the contractor Triple V. Property Investment Limited to Lusaka and meet with officers at the ministry in charge of the project to find out why the project had stalled.

And speaking in the same meeting, local Government procurement officer, Charles Chisanga expressed disappointment with the contractor.

Mr. Chisanga further threatened to ban the said contractor from participating in any Government contracts should he fails to complete the said project on time.

Meanwhile Triple.V. Property investment director Victor Katongo has since apologised to Government and promised that his company will resume work before Friday this week.

    • If you vet contractors properly at tender& procurement stage only accept bids from contractors with reputable proven track records you would not have this problem!!

    • If you arrive at Lagos airport and walk from the plane into the building, you will see that the works are done by an african. The toilets awe mwandini. Even at our airport at KK, I have see some works done by an African called Zambian. Awe mwandini kupapafye. In Zambia Kenneth Kaunda introduced trades institute with Kabwe having the biggest in the country. All developed nations have these trades institute where they train people to perform good quality jobs. Each person who qualifies gets a certificate just like in Zambia. But difference is that pa Zambia any jim and jack can build a house without a certificate or licence while here in australia no Jim and Jack can just say I will install electric lines in the new house or build a house. You have to be properly certified to do any work of that nature. And insurance companies are very particular about this as a result people refrain from hiring jim and jacks.

  1. Toothless cadres making the usual ‘WARNINGS’ against incompetent cadre contractors.
We need reforms with self explanatory consequences in this construction sector.
Our cadre contractors are failing to deliver and we need to quickly replace them with the Chinese

  2. They get contract that they have no capacity to execute. Next we shall hear is that their work has been shoddy. What is empowerment for if those getting the empowerment through construction work simply abandon construction site? They give Chinese such contractors complain bitterly! Everywhichway such contractors are a let down. I think stiff punishment including long jail terms should be placed on these culprits.

  3. Every month we hear the same…..just continue stealing after all your leader does not mind being called a theif

    • They allow cadres with no track record through the back door and expect success…its like the Fire Engine contract ..since when has that company delivered Fire Engines!!

  4. This article lacks proper investigation into the situation.

And please, the government doesn’t need to spit “fire” it needs to spit reason. Which hasn’t happened it seems since 23.9.2011.

  5. Camon PF, every month you complain of reckless contractors yet nothing is put in place to arrest the situation.

We are tired of you complaining, just continue stealing mwee…..

  6. kikiki, I just love that name…’JOBBICKS’

It reminds me of street corner rogues back on the copperbelt
who were notorious of fleecing unsuspecting people out of their cash.
