Eastern province has recorded thirteen cases of cholera with one death.

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo pronounced the outbreak of the epidemic in the region during the Provincial cholera Epidemic preparedness meeting yesterday.

Mr Kasolo disclosed that so far four cases have been confirmed in Lundazi and Sinda districts.

Following the pronouncement by the head of State, His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu that defence forces should join in the fight against cholera outbreak, the province has lined up a number of activities to address the problem.

Mr Kasolo cited some of the measures as the closure of all legal and illegal markets who will fail to meet hygiene standards, the banning of street vending to enable cleaning, garbage collection and unblocking of drainages.

He said no large gatherings of more than five people including church programs, weddings, music concerts, funerals and bars should take place without clearance by Ministry of health and local authorities.

He has further urged the district epidemic committees to be meeting and feeding information to provincial epidemic preparedness committee which shall be meeting on daily basis at 9 hours.

He further instructed health and local authorities to station Environmental health technicians at all main bus stops to educate and screen for diarrhoea and vomiting.

He has called on all members of the public to participate in the cleaning up of premises and to maintain personal hygiene, adding that the buying of food from streets be avoided.

The province has since set up a financial committee to help raise resources for the operations to curb the epidemic, and each government and private department has been urged to do a massive clean up exercise on Monday 8th January.

  1. This breaks my heart; 50 plus years after independence we are still taking about cholera in Zambia? That sad but is that we have the resources to stop it they are just mismanaged…

    • Malawi! Close your border…you might be poorest nation on earth but your are not filthy like these people called Zambians.

    • You have career thieves whose main job is stealing, not governing. To them, cholera is just an irritating distraction that’s preventing them from focusing on the plunder.

  2. Lungu needs to Resign there is no leadership in Zambia he has failed as a leader…I don’t understand why Zambian people can’t stand up to what’s wrong…this has been the worst government I have experienced ever since I was born.

  3. Health personnel must be put on mwami border as well to screen Malawians entering Zambia there is an outbreak in Malawi also.

  4. EDGAR LUNGU GO AND APOLOGIZE TO KAMBWILI OTHERWISE THE SPIRIT OF SATA WILL BE HAUNTING THE PF GVT AND ITS GOVERNANCE WILL GO NO WHERE .SATA’S SPIRIT IS NOT AT PEACE WITH THE TURN OF EVENTS IN PF.

  5. Its HH’s advance party for his so called card renewal exercise that have wilfully contaminated the great clean city of Chipata with cholera!

  6. Quite a shame.. In my years of existence I’ve never heard of a country’s defense forces combating a disease, those guys are not trained to deal with such issues.. We can do a whole lot better than this, its insane how they’ve handled the situation.. The repercussion is going to be worse than Chorela!!!

  7. Zambian you boast that you are a middle income country yet you are a dirtiest look at Lusaka you can’t compare it with Lilongwe. Yet what we hear is kutukwana a Malawi. Zambia is the most filthy nation I have ever seen.

    • @Banda
Please for the sake of your mental health don’t pay attention to them. They brag for nothing. Zambia is the third hungriest nation on our planet. Malawi is and has always ranked far above Zambia in terms of the ability to feed its population. They say cleanliness is next to Godliness but just look at the filth in Zambia especially the capital city where governing thieves live. There are no stats about Zambia’s rank in dirtiness but probably in this area too, this filthy nation is again the leader. “Christian Nation” tag is a misnomer. To me it seems Zambia’s is Satan’s play ground if not his earthly heard office. So don’t let their insults worry you.

  8. Insults or blaming one another will totally take us no where, let’s just deal with what we have brought on our selves, dirty is the major thing we need to deal with, everyone is reliable it be this or that party we are at fault so stop this nonsense of posting rubbish here let’s repent and be clean that’s it. You and I together we keep Zambia clean and cholera shall vanish.

    • Comment: u know i don’t agree with u on the first part were u say that we have brought it on our selves
instead there is an office somewhere which is on sleeping mode
definitely will have to work together now in order to fight this dreadful disease

  9. Dumb commentators like Ody, WHO, and other UPND id0ts, don’t mislead the uninformed.
Please Google countries which are attacked by the epidemic from time to time.
Cholera is everywhere, South Africa, Latin America, Ghana etc. Please don’t misinform.

  10. Blaming one another won’t help anyone.Let’s learn a big lesson from this disaster and take corrective and preventive measures in future

  11. Tongas, there you go with your hatred, you will only rule Dundumwenzi not any tribe apart from your tribal area.No positive suggestions.

  12. Only true Zambian will sympathize with what is happening, let’s check our comments please and put forward solutions not just hatred.

  13. I remember His Execellence P.Levy Mwanawasa (late M.H.S.R.I.E.P).In respect of this matter in debate, the big man was unpopular to most Zambians to an extent that some people stoned his motorcade from time and again.People gave him all such names. He addressed the nation, you remember that ” today i am unpopular becos I want to make towns clean (make Zambia clean compaign) but tomorrow you will remember me.” It was a prophecy to me and it is happening. So don’t blame anybody as at now neither insult innocent countries and their people.Don’t be quick to judge but rather take your time and stand on this word of God; 2 Chronicles 7:12-15.This is the only way to overcome and not what you are doing. It’s not by power or might but by The Spirit of God.Amen

  14. You think what is happening is normal? If you are a christian study the word of God and know the seasons in which we are and don’t be ignorant. And if you are not a christian I encourage you, this is your day for tomorrow is mystery.I introduce you to Jesus Christ John 3:16 John 14:6 Romans 10:6-17 If accept him as your Lord and personal savior you will be saved. Then you will know why cholerea has come for it is not ordinary brothers and sisters. If u want to be led to Christ contact me on [email protected]

  15. we just have to pray to our Jehovah God . otherwise cholera can wipe us all. keep yourself clean coz cleanness is next to Godliness.
