A Police Officer of Sikanze camp in Lusaka has committed suicide by shooting himself through the mouth using an AK 47 riffle.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS by Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo IN Lusaka today.

She stated that the deceased before taking his life was alleged to have assaulted his fellow officer and that the matter was reported to Kabwata Police station where he was charged with assault.

Ms Katongo explained that Mukupa also negotiated with his friend to settle the matter outside court and was charged K35, 000 which Mr Mukupa failed to raise.

  1. The tragedy of being human is that we can never really know what our fellow human beings are feeling or how much pain they are in. We can ask ourselves whether we could have done more to ease their pain, but sometimes there is nothing we could have done. From the outside a situation can seem solvable, but to the person suffering, there can seem to be no way out. I feel for the family and friends who now much be suffering themselves, and hold them in the light. And to anyone else suffering, please talk to someone – there is very rarely no solution to your problems, and a problem shared is a problem halved.

    • Just wondering how someone could be charged K35,000.00. How?? Kalilo?? The assulted Officer must hold himself accountable for this misfortune. Let us learn to forgive whatever the situation.

  2. Yaba so many bad things happening in this country………….. are we under a spell or what. Lets call for a national prayer day for confession. This is just too much.

  3. ZMK35 000 was way too much as compensation for assault. Lets have a heart people. This friend wanted to benefit over a small beating. The reality is we are all feeling the hardships of this economy and to take advantage of another person’s misfortune is killing that person as has just happen.

The two police officers should have been reconciled.
Now imagine a situation where by the late police officer would have wanted to take the life of the person he assaulted also together with his perceived enemies at work, he would have opened fire at his fellow police officers

  4. Did Jesus commit suicide? Of course he did.
Hebrews 7:27 even gives Jesus credit for killing himself. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. The Jewish high priest slit the throat of the sacrificial animal and offered it to God.Hebrews 7:27 is saying that Jesus essentially slit his own throat. He could not offer himself without being the high priest who does the killing. If suicide is a sin, then Jesus committed the sin of self-murder.

  5. The President has three options – suspend Richard Musukwa for now, fire him or give him a less sensitive ministry like the one which was for Victoria Kalima. 10 young lives have died needlessly, there must be some consequences surely

  6. There have been more deaths of police officers from suicide than even being shot while on duty. Criminals is this your new tactic?

  7. ATLEAST HE SHOT HIMSELF AND NEVER LEFT A NOTE , SO DONT THINK ITS BECAUSE OF ASSAULT IT COULD BE ABOUT HIM THINKING OF HH TO BE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA IN 2026??/

  8. I relate to the late officer’s situation. I blame the dealing officer for not been fair and professional. There is no way a simple assault can attract such an amount. Police command was aware of this officer’s predicament but did nothing. Assault should be finable even at the police, it’s too much of people taking advantage of the situation and demand such money.
