The Mkushi Famers Association has called for wide consultation on the draft land policy.

Association Acting President Bruce Skinner says the issue of the draft land policy has created a lot of uncertainty among commercial farmers in Mkushi.

Mr. Skinner said there is need for sensitisation on what the draft land policy is all about to avoid panic among the commercial farmers in Mkushi farming block.

He said the commercial farmers in Mkushi farming block also have a number of concerns over the current Water Resources Management Authority-WARMA statutory instrument on management of ground water.

Mr. Skinner was speaking during the Mkushi Expo organising committee breakfast meeting held at Country club yesterday.

And Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe assured the farmers of Government’s support.

Mr. Kabwe said the government is ready to listen to the farmers association’s concerns and see how best they can be addressed.

He added that a meeting will be organized between the Mkushi farmers association and the relevant government ministries in Lusaka to chat the way forward.

Mr. Kabwe has assured the farmers in the Mkushi farming block that their investment is safe as Zambia is still the best investment destination in Africa because of its political stability.

Mr. Kabwe added that the commercial farmers should not worry with the land policy which he says is aimed at improving land management in the country.

He had since challenged the Mkushi farmers association to take keen interest and read the draft land policy.

  1. Eventually, those so-called “commercial farmers” (mzungus) shall take over the entire central Zambia especially Mkushi. Ba kabwe please don’t just agree to everything those guys are doing/saying.

Remember always that those guys despite what they are promising to do today and for the country, they DON’T just venture into any projects or undertakings without SERIOUS financial calculations; nibachaaabe when it comes to ndrama issues.

    • Nkope Shinyenga – Mkushi is a farming block….do you know that there are some Zimbabwean farmers who came with nothing there but had to work on their friends farms to obtain land, you are busy complaining yet don’t want to move to farming. I have great respect for farmers, they work hard and contribute to the growth of the economy irrespective of race.

    • Nkope, the farmers in Mkushi have been feeding the entire nation quietly for generations. Some are ex Zimbabwean yes, but they are doing a great job in Zambia. Some where actually born in Zambia, but that does not matter much. What matters is that these guys are doing so well, you never even hear about them. They are that good, and they stay out of politics. They were here before Lungu came, and they will be here long after Lungu retires to Swaziland.

These are the type of investors Zambia needs. Not the Chinese that are corrupt.

Zambia welcomes foreigners that aim to improve the country.

    • What’s general tendency in the world? It’s for fewer and fewer farmers being able to produce all the food all the people need because of increasing efficiency and mechanization. If all our farmers became more efficient, we would need just a few of them. Question is what happens to all the small scale farmers we still have. Answer is their children have to acquire new skills to prepare them for life away from the rural economy. Industrialization is the answer my friend. This has happened in the West. Australia,Canada,Britain and the USA have fewer farmers now than in 1930 but they are not short of food. Prepare for the same my friend. This is the iron law of social change. You can’t fight it. You just have to adapt.

  2. Zambians and complaints, why do we like complaining unnecessarily? How many of us youths are into farming? Not even your father is or was a farmer.Go to Serenje or Isoka and start up your own farm than just complaining.

  3. Without Farmers we don’t eat, ask the Zimbo’s so let them stay, its the chinese that take jobs and food from us. ever seem a whiteman selling in the markets no

  4. Waste of time. Consultations started in Kaunda’s days and up to now we haven’t made any progress. Reason being that each one wants to benefit personally. It’s like that former Kitwe mayor who was attacking the Chinese businesses in Zambia but offered no solution to counter the Chinese “invasion “

  5. Already the utterly lazy dingbat has declared 26th a Public holiday due to elections in Lusaka….when I call this Edgar lazy you think its an insult…he has no work ethic like these farmers to him everyday is a holiday as he has no responsibilities or a vision …he is happy to declare holidays when he can not finance the budget fully…no shame!!

    • Lazy bum insolent tribalist coward boy hooligan bully on the computer and son of a tribalist polygamist father hurling insults Hagain representing a tribal grouping and tribal privatization thief and money laundering Childish who will NEVER be a president.

    • Sharon: This is the effect of Kaunda’s govt’s policies in the late 1960s. We have become a country where some tribes’ very languages and names are considered as tribalism itself. I see it in many walks of life. This country isn’t headed in the right direction. I see this even in churches.

  6. HaJayJay please decide and lets move on. “Lazy” and “Directionless” Hakainde? Or are you making a final confirmation that you are actually a follower of the small god in namwala? With allies in chieftainess Mukuni at the graveyard?
