President Edgar Lungu has left for South Africa to attend the 10th edition of the BRICS Summit which is taking place in Johannesburg on Thursday this week.

BRICS is a grouping of five major emerging economies namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

President Lungu said even if Zambia is not a member of the BRICS, it was important for the country to know what the big economies are doing and draw lessons from the summit.

The President was speaking at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this after before departure for South Africa.

He said Zambia has been invited to attend the summit as a SADC member country and as a chair for TRIOKA in the region.

The President said he would take advantage of the BRICS summit to engage big economies of the world like Russia to see how Zambia can collaborate with them in various areas.

He added that Zambia has resources which countries like Russia may be interested in hence the need to engage them at such fora.

Vice President Inonge Wina, Mines Minister Richard Musukwa, Minister of Justice Given Lubinda and his Health counterpart Chitalu Chilufya were among the senior government officials who saw off the head of state at the airport.

The President is expected to return back home tomorrow after his engagement at the summit.

  1. I doubt if Zambia’s attendance is really necessary. If we are incoming SADC Chair for defense, we are we going for an economy based grouping of which we are not members.

I guess we have to check on the property in eSwatini.

    • Lungu’s entourage just got bigger, with “business men”, cadres and groupies, all accompanying this thing.

One would be mistaken that he is going there to do serious business.

Some Zambians are so dull, they clap at everything this thief Lungu does.

Zambia is the laughing stock of our neighbours. All because of this corrupt thief Lungu.

    • Daughter: Dad where are you going?
General: I am going to see off our President to SA.
Daughter: but you were there last Sunday evening…why dont you move office to the airport?

    • Waste of Taxpayers’ money. Clear wrong priorities. What the hell we are not a member and what are you going to do?? People who want to Invest in a Corrupt free Zambia will come by themselves. Lungu sometimes does things that make NO SENSE.

  2. The whole country is brainwashed. Look at the military chiefs, the women in political regalia, the police, the ministers, gathered at the airport for what? What exactly is wrong with people in Zambia? We cannot ever develop with with this hero worshiping and laziness. Go to work. Put the country first.

  3. Look at that folly at KKIA…and you intend this airport the hub of central Africa with cadres, generals, ministers always on the tarmac really laughable!!

  4. Is Lungu back to flying charter planes? This is not the Zambian plane? What happened to Austerity Measures? What happened to saving?

  5. Always wasteful pomp ,style and grand ceremonies at KKIA with half GRZ officials in attendance. No surprise therefore that Singapore and UAE got far more developed than Zed while our poor Chibolya ,Mtendere and Lusaka CBD look like warzones.
