President Edgar Lungu says he is disappointed that campaigns for the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election are centred on tribal lines.

Speaking during a public rally at Chiparamba Sub-Centre yesterday, President Lungu said he has heard reports about people questioning whether Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Sensio Banda is Ngoni or Chewa.

The President stated that people should be concerned whether Mr. Banda will bring development to the area once ushered into office and not worry about his tribe.

He said there is need to promote unity in the country through the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto and avoid tribal politics.

And the Head of State urged people in the area to vote for the PF candidate saying it will be easy to work with him than an opposition Member of Parliament (MP).

He further took a swipe at MPs that have stopped visiting their constituencies stating that he is aware that some the law makers have become big headed by not visiting people who voted them into office.

President Lungu added that PF promotes humble leadership because power belongs to the people.

He told Mr. Banda to closely work with the people once elected and continue with developmental projects left by the late Victoria Kalima.

Meanwhile, Chief Mishoro of the Ngoni people has thanked President Lungu for declaring Kasenengwa as a district.

He however, said his chiefdom has continued to face a number of challenges such as bad roads, inadequate health posts and lack of communication network among others.

Chief Mishoro appealed to government to consider connecting his palace to the national grid as it is only 6km away from the main power line.

He said this when President Lungu paid a courtesy call on him at Chiparamba Day Secondary School.

And President Lungu said he had taken note of the challenges highlighted by the traditional leader and promised to have them addressed.

He said government is currently constructing more than 1, 000 communication towers in the country to improve network accessibility.

  1. The president is right. Can’t stand tribalists. This country will do terribly by not voting For a man like Lungu who rightfully calls out tribaliata.

That’s why I decided to marry a Scottish man. Nick.

We are sleeping at pamodzi hotel. This is life.

I made it in life. Yes !

    Thanks

    • @Mushota, I will call you in morning, you can sleep at our family house in Lusaka Ibex area. I feel so sad that you can’t find a family to accommodate you, hence spend holiday in brothels.

    • Edgar is a joker. In Kasenngwa PF MPs from E-province have been caught campaigning on tribal lines, maligning the UPND who are not even competing in that by-election. Very sad

    • Now that UPND are not even participating in this election what say you PF plunderers? Lungu is not mentioning his MP who was talking about Tongas and UPND in an election they arent even participating…It is almost as if you are programmed by default to attack them. The fact is tribalism in recent times gained prominence with the rise of the PF and consolidated once they got into power. They have used it as a political tool to malign other players using state media predominantly

    • “And the Head of State urged people in the area to vote for the PF candidate saying it will be easy to work with him than an opposition Member of Parliament (MP).”

Enough to nullify an election in a civilized country.

    • Comment:may God almighty continue to bless all those who are helping to develope this nation, one Zambia one nation & may he continue to add more wisdom, knowledge & understanding to our head of state his excellence Mr Edgar C. lungu, United we stand divided we fall, God bless Zambia!!! James tk

  2. Tri-bal politics started with the rise of Hichilema to UPND president. Blame Ackson Sejane and Mutinta Mazoka. Blame (HH) who chased Sikota Sakwiba out of UPND for being of wrong ethnic background.

    Rest in peace Kaizer Zoo

    • This Kudos and everyone else giving him a plus need to have their brains examined …. oh! There are no brains in that skull. UPND are not even participating in this election how do they come in? It is almost as if you are programmed by default to attack them. The fact is tribalism in recent times gained prominence with the rise of the PF and consolidated once they got into power. They have used it as a political tool to malign other players using state media predominantly

  3. Sharon the blogger @LusakaTimes is the biggest Lungu cheerleader using tribalistic comments. Surely Bwana Lungu do you denounce tribalist Sharon too ?

  4. Lungu’s all too frequent “two day working visits ” are becoming an excuse for electioneering and politicking 24/7.

    • The whole Head of State has gone there when its only unknowns like PAC and UPPZ on the ballot paper…no wonder he has nothing to talk about from the usual ” if you vote PF …we will bring development”.
Imagine there is no President in Lusaka as old hen bo Inonge is also in NW.

    • Our economy is in meltdown and he standing on a platform with junior ministers in Kasenengwa without shame …his colleague in Kenya President Kenyatta was at the White House over the weekend and will be welcoming British PM this week…this is what happens when you put an individual without vision as a President

  5. #4 Enka, what excuse? He is the President of Zambia and entitled to campaign for his party anytime anywhere. If your tri.bal Hacks is cheesed off with this he would have launched a petition in court.

  6. If you want to know the source of tribalism in Zambian politics read the book written by Ng’andu Magande, The Depths of my Footprints.

  7. So no UPND and those campaigning are both locals but someone still has time to bring up tribalism?????? Why feast on tribalism you tribalists pathetic failures-PF!!!

    Thank you

  8. This guy is a joker, he mentions of tribalism between Ngonis and Chewas but fails to condemn remarks made about Tongas. This has been going on for ages and even most comments i read on this forum is full of hate. This is a time bomb for the country. Please don’t insult me I don’t want to be part of that but constructive analysis of issues????

  9. “..he said there is need to promote unity in the country through the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto and avoid tribal politics…”

Lungu , what did you do when ck was a senior minister in you GRZ and went on national tv and radio and attacked Tongas ? State house even went as far as spreading lies about people being killed in SP because they were bemba, like the lie of a bemba teacher killed in siavonga….

You did nothing. You watched and applauded CK.

You are a dirty corrupt tribalist theif.

    • Where were you when Bembas in Namwala were being speared, their houses burned and beaten? Are you a foreigner not to know this?

    • Truth Hates

I was here during namwala just like I was here during the bweengwa kidnapping when highly trained UPND comandos kidnapped GRZ and pf journalists , I was still here when GBM was using a Lusaka gym to train UPND youth methods of attacking Zambian defence forces using golf clubs and catapults and boxing gloves…..remember those atrocities ?

  10. The President is right. We must discourage tribalism when it shows its ugly head, we must not be afraid to talk about it just because UPND are not participating

  11. Can someone explain to the nation on my behalf the true meaning of the so said mwana wakweesu say,in every elections in southern part of mother Zambia, and which part of Zambia is more tribalistic when it comes to vote??????????

  12. H.E. President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is very right about the Ngoni /Chewa tribal conflicts….I feel pity for my province if this Ngoni/Chewa conflict continues the eastern province will be divided into two tribal province….The only solution is to that problem lies between Inkosi yama inkosi Mpezeni and Kalonga Gawa Undi

  13. So tribalism is everywhere. But it is so highly pronounced among certain groups of people in Zambia. When I read the heading the first thing which came to my mind was a certain political party but then I realised they were not present in that bye election but there was still tribalism remarks. Then I asked myself – Is tribalism everywhere? Why has it been so pronounced this time around than any other time. The last political party in MMD it was not so pronounced. why why now?

  14. UPND dead and and buried, it doesnt get better than this, the party is gone, gone. If you know the Z politics, once people lose interest and faith in you thats the end. So those still clinging on to UPND, you better look for alternatives çause Akainde is a lost cause and he doesnt care about anyone.

  15. UPND is dead and and buried, it doesnt get better than this, the party is gone, gone. If you know the Z politics, once people lose interest and faith in you thats the end. 16. Ba Jona, you only wail ati “Tribalism” when it affects your Cadres who are busy infighting.
Never have I heard Drunken Jona Pombe condemn Tribalism when it’s aimed @ others outside the Plunderers Federation.
The Cancet P.F have introduced to Zambia via their founding father Sata will swallow all, & destroy this once great nation.

  17. I thought Edgar was going to condemn the man who was saying people in Eastern Province should only vote for Easterners and not Tongas but alas that was sweet music to him. Tribalism is only when it disadvantages him. Bwana you need to show you are a national leader

  18. Fact: Oil mixes with Oil! Water also mixes with water! Why should Water acuse Oil of Oilolism and why should Oil acuse Water of Waterism? Oil and Water don’t mix!
Fact: Every Tribe in Zambia is Tribal! In many departments and sections in Zambia, you are sure to find Tribalism and Nepotism and no tribe is clean when it comes to Tribalism. Tribalism is the twin sister to Racism! African Blacks are also as racist as white supremacists! Let’s just get used to the pain of being different and diverse!

    • I would have agreed with you if you had said, “UPND is tribal.” Right now, I don’t. UPND is like oil it mixes well with oil and not with water.

    • @ Victor, you must have been too young in 2016 to understand the voting pattern in Zambia! Easterners openly said vote for wako ni wako and that was not called regionalism! When Easterners are always buried together with the ruling party like we did with UNIP and MMD, don’t you see regionalism in every corner of the country? It’s only bad when a Tonga votes for a Banthu Botatwe! When Southern Province voted for Chiluba against KK, that was not tribalism, right? To hell with your tribal talk! We Tongas don’t need politics to survive like other tribal groupings who only survive by parasitizing government institutions! To frustrate you further, we’ll always vote for our own whether you like it or not and whether we win or lose since that is the tribal labeling you want us to have.

  19. Guys, honestly the Loziz are the most civilized in Zambia. You will never hear them say this one is Nyengo, Kwangwa or Subiya. The Ngonis have all been Chewanized and must stop being silly to think they are still Nguni Jeres!

  20. I am Tonga by Tribe and My Tribe comes FIRST! I don’t give the rats ass if you hate me because of my ethnic extraction! I vote on merit! I voted for Chiluba, Mazoka and HH on merit because these candidates had a plan for the nation! If you tell me you have no vision, I have no time for time wasters! If you want a Tonga to vote for you, you better pay attention to Agriculture which is our livelihood! No vision, no vote! Nothing Tribal here! Tongas are Self-sufficient economically! You can cut us from the rest of Zambia if you think we are too independent for you!
