First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda has observed that discrimination based on tribe and ethnic background has no place in Zambia.
Dr. Kaunda said that family names should not determine who to associate with, but rather the character of the hearts of each one of every Zambian.
Speaking at a vision ambassadors promoting peace campaign fundraising dinner, Dr. Kaunda said that discrimination, suspicion, hatred, betrayal, malice, greed, selfishness, and other negative behavior are a threat to the core values of unity if left unchecked.
He has recalled that during the struggle for independence, people from various backgrounds worked together, realizing that they were, above everything else, brothers and sisters of one nation.
Dr. Kaunda said that the “One Zambia One Nation” slogan coined many decades ago still holds true and continues to unite Zambian’s together as one, adding that Zambia remains a beacon of peace in Africa and that it is important that all Zambian citizens should maintain peace and love one another.
Meanwhile Dr. Kaunda has reminded young people in the country that they have a big role to play in weaving together the fabrics of peace and unity for this country and has commended President Edgar Lungu for his efforts in uniting the various people in the country.
And speaking at the same event, National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Reverend Godfridah Sumaili said that national unity and peace is critical for the development of the country.
Rev. Sumaili said that it is difficult for Zambia to develop if there is no unity among Zambians.
And earlier in his speech, Vision Ambassador to Zambia Chairperson Misheck Kombe expressed concern that regionalism and tribalism is tearing Zambia apart.
Mr. Kombe says it is important for each and every zambian to join the crusade against tribalism and regionalism because it retards development.
Well said KK tell that to crazy Sharon and all those foolz speaking against our Tonga brothers and sisters.
Instead of speaking in parables, KK should have gone to Chagwa and his tribal haters and told them the naked truth. It is Chagwa and his PF who have sown the seed of tribal hatred and will harvest its whirlwind very soon.

All these challenges we are facing today are a result of kk and his colleague’s failure to look into the future during the negotiations for independence, their only goal was to get political power, nothing else, how i wish i could have a one on one talk with this guy, 1.did they take into consideration that the northern Rhodesia they were negotiating for was a British creation, why didn’t they call for a referendum and ask people if they wanted to go the one Zambia, one nation route.
I see a lost cause in this campaign of peace and unity as such it is bound to fail. Kaunda is also part of the problem for having looked away when these divisions have continued to degenerate to this level because he was busy protecting his side of the cake. The focus seems to be on the symptoms and not the real cause. Senior members of the PF are the main culprit especially that they are the ones in power. This is evident in recruitment and promoting, political pronouncement especially during campaigns, retiring people on tribal lines, selective disbursement of CD funds and promoting of development. Tribalism and regionalism has been formalized and as long as the electoral bodies are compromised, peace and unity will remain elusive. EC, his cabinet and PF MPs should be the primary target…

I’m Bemba and fell in love with an amazing Lozi lady. All was rosy until her dad told her he would never allow us to unite, when asked why, his response was, because he (meaning me) was Bemba. That how our love ended.
Then years past, I happened to have met first childhood Tonga girlfriend only this time, we both were fully grown adults and got married. Twas all wow until her family sat decided I was no good for their daughter and came and told her away from her matrimonial home. The only crime I committed was being Bemba.
Up to now, I don’t know what Bembas did to Lozis and Tongas to find ourselves where we are and why?

The only way to resolve this tribalism and regionalism is to fragment this so called zambia into regions. The slogan one zambia one nation stinks!! Let every region manage itself of better still revert to northwestern rhodesia and northeastern rhodesia. This one zambia one nation is being forced on everyone as though we all need it. It is even being used conveniently by certain tribes especially north and eastern to demonise other tribes as though they themselves are angels.
