The Zambia Police Service has arrested and charged UNZA lecturer Austine Mbozi with the offence of expression and showing hate, ridicule and contempt to people because of their tribe.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says this is contrary to sector seventy of the penal code of the laws of Zambia.
Mrs. Katongo says the suspect has since been released on bond.
The Police Spokesperson told ZNBC News that the public will be advised as to when the suspect will appear in court.
Mrs. Katongo further warned the public to stop issuing statements that promote tribal hate using social media as this constitutes a crime in Zambia.
Dr. Mbozi is accused of having issued tribal remarks against another tribal grouping in Zambia.

If indeed he has insulted another tribe then he was wrong but if this is another cooked up charge by the police just because he was critical of the government then the police will be made to pay through compensating him.

I feel it is a selective approach. Maybe this is only applicable when a person is talking against a specific tribe not all tribes. People have spoken against Tongas but the police you were there watching. I need to be advised maybe it’s a new offence.

I remember prior 2011 general elections, Costa Mwansa was political pundit for MUVI TV , on his program called race to manda HILL, Mr mbozi was sitting next to ECL , the man couldn’t greet ECL because of social status, as a lecturer in black.
At UNZA and CBU , ever since, Tongas lecturers have promoted tribalism in mainly in school of social sciences and humanities.Recent years, it’s worse because of tribal politics.The Anglo- American have for long sponsor students ,HH and other lecturers are products of AA that hauled away from late 1970s during time of madzoka as Anglo-American chairman for southern African countries. This is one of reason tribalism is now pandemic at higher institutions of learning.
Away from everything, tribalism started with KK and late Nkhumbula.
Same happened at ZCCM centralized Services. One had to belong to them to make it. I can mention names who got promoted soon after this gentleman became General Manager. A reporter from Samfya had his promotion to Chief Editor of the Mining Mirror revoked. He resigned and joined Zambia Airways.
Our Constitution does not have a clause which says there should be tribal rotation on the presidency. All it says is one must get 50+1 of the vote to become republican president. However this does not apply to a group I found at a Kalulushi club. This group consisting of the tribe of HH and a few Lundas was there calling for a change in the system because according to them “Bembas” have ruled for far too long. To me this is tribalism of the worst kind and actually diminishes the guy’s chances of becoming Republican president.
All these tribalism will end if HH is given Southern Province as his country to rule. The rest of Zambia shall live in harmony again. Whether you agree or not Tongas are just xenophobic in competing with other tribes, rather, they want to be favoured in order to win. We have ten provinces and only four provinces have produced presidents and this is work in progress. HH came with the concept that it is now Tongas time to rule Zambia under UPND and not any other party. Why is it that no Tonga politician is contesting for Presidency in other parties? Why HH is not opposed by any Tonga man for Presidency? Is he the only Tonga presidential material?

This is the more this country was first ruled by a foreigner at our own peril. We do not seem to work together when it comes to the issues of tribes. What a shame!!. Let’s look for capable leadership and tribes. When in primary, secondary and later on tertiary schools, this thing of tribe was never an issue. Hence, Zambia us full of people from Malawi, Tanzania, Angola, Zimbabwe and DR Congo who have become Zambian Citizen by default because where you came never mattered to us unlike neighbouring countries like Botswana.
So where is this ugly animal of tribalism coming from? Let’s wake Zambians. Lets avoid being played. A good leader can come from any tribe. What is critical is wisdom and great love for this country.
