Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company has advised the public to ignore the message being circulated on social media claiming that water has been contaminated and that the utility company has advised people to desist from consuming it.
Company Spokesman Patson Phiri said the watt utility has not issued any notice of that nature.
Mr Phiri said customers should ignore that message.
“It is very clear that this message, which is from an anonymous source is an attempt at alarming and causing unnecessary panic amongst members of the public. Nonetheless, we have proceeded to investigate the claim in line with our procedures. Our staff are currently on the ground collecting water samples for analysis testing,” he said.
“Please note that LWSC is guided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Zambia Bureau of Standards guidelines to produce and supply quality drinking water to its customers. In that regard, the water supplied by the utility company goes through a standard treatment process before it is supplied to the customers.”
Mr Phiri said water quality surveillance is also undertaken on a daily basis and quality control measures are in place to ensure that the water supplied meets the quality standards required.
Somebody is responsible for this falsehood as usual.
How can we entrust you with national responsibility with that kind of behaviour
