Nkana beat Kalulushi Modern Stars in friendly

Nkana on Thursday afternoon warmed-up for their 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage date against San Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire with a 2-1 pre-season friendly away victory over old foes Kalulushi Modern Stars.

The friendly was played at Independence Stadium in Kalulushi to avoid causing damage to their rain-drenched Nkana Stadium pitch in Kitwe ahead of Saturday’s home leg match against San Pedro.

Midfielder’s Obed Masumbuko and Kelvin Mubanga were on target for Nkana while Aliam Zimba scored Kalulushi’s lone goal.

The match was also Nkana’s first game since December 23 when they lost 3-1 away in Tanzania to Simba SC who eliminated them 4-3 on aggregate from the pre-group stage of the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League.

That result saw Nkana demoted to the pre-group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup where they were drawn against San Pedro.

Meanwhile, Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi had just one concern from the friendly that came 48 hours before their continental match.

“I am happy with the endurance, the coordination is there although our ratio of scoring is not up to date but we are looking forward to Saturday’s game,” Chambeshi said.
