Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga and his executive committee has congratulated Zambia’s envoy in the CAF Confederation Cup, Zesco United for qualifying to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup after beating Kaizer Chiefs yesterday.

Kamanga said Zesco United’s victory reaffirms the Associations’ belief that the Zambian game is on the rise.

“I’m extremely delighted with Zesco United’s qualifying to the group stage of the confederations cup. I congratulate Zesco United Management, players and technical bench for a job well done,” Kamanga said.

He said this is a big achievement for Zesco United who have been eliminated twice now in the last three seasons by South African clubs and the win to the Group stages brings with it a lot of confidence.

And Kamanga has urged the 2018 FAZ/MTN Super League Champions to remain focused ahead of their next games.

The FAZ president believes that Zesco United has the capacity to win the competition.

“It is my belief that Zesco United has the capacity to go beyond the group stage and win this competition. I wish to urge Zesco United football club to remain steadfast as it prepares for the group stage,” he said.

Last night, George Lwandamina’s led Zesco United beat Kaizer Chiefs by 2-1 (5-2 on aggregate) in the CAF Confederations Cup 2nd leg match played at the FNB stadium in South Africa.

Chiefs went into the match in need of two goals to level matters, and advance on away goal rule having gone down 3-1 to Zesco in Ndola, Zambia last weekend.

The Zambian dream continues today in Ivory Coast as Nkana take on FC San Pedro leading 3-0 from the first leg.

Meanwhile, the draws for the CAF Confederation Cup comes out tomorrow, Monday 21st January 2018.

This is according to a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by FAZ Communications Manager, Desmond Katongo.
