Matate gets National Olympics Committee of Zambia appointment

Athletics great Samuel Matete has been appointed to serve on the Technical Commission for the National Olympics Committee of Zambia (NOCZ).

The commission is one of the tools put in place to drive key focus areas of the NOCZ Strategic Plan 2018-2021.

In a letter to Matete dated 31st January 2019, NOCZ General Secretary Boniface Kambikambi said the former World Champion been given a mandate to run from 2019 to 2020.

‘We are positive that your contribution will bring value to the performance of the NOCZ and the sports movement as a whole,’Kambikambi wrote.

Matete, the most successful sportsman in Zambia, is currently serving as deputy coach of the Athletics National Team.

In his heydays, Matete won a gold medal at the 1991 World Championships and was twice silver medalist at the same event.

He was three-time World Cup winner and won gold at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.

Matete later won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta in what still is Zambia’s last medal at the World biggest showpiece event.
