President EDGAR LUNGU has directed the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to ensure local contractors participate in the construction of the multi-facility International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

President LUNGU says the ministry should ensure that the 20 percent sub-contracting policy is adhered to by the contractor engaged to build the state of the art multi-facility international conference centre.

He says this will allow for skills transfer and enable the local contractors to gain knowledge and build capacity.

President LUNGU, who was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project in Lusaka, urged the contractor, China Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Corporation to procure as much material from local suppliers as to contribute to the country’s Growth Domestic Product.

He also urged the Contractor to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated time frame and with adhering to the highest standards.

President LUNGU noted that 500 direct jobs and 1 -thousand indirect jobs will be created during the construction phase while 60 permanent jobs will be created when the facility is completed.

The Head of State further said the infrastructure is not only testimony to the unbreakable bond shared between Zambia and China but will also provide an Ultra-modern infrastructure that will be host to many high-level meetings including the African Union Summit in 2022.

President LUNGU further said the International Conference Centre will also further economic opportunities which will stimulate economic growth .

He also sympathized with China on the loss of lives due to the Corona virus.

And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia LI JIE said the China Aid international conference project is a reflection of the mutual friendship between Zambia and China.

Mr. LI said the International Conference facility which will have over 4- thousand seating capacity will be the largest in Zambia and the second largest in Africa and will be constructed by China Jiangsu.

He assured that the Contractor will not only finish works in the stipulated time but also ensure that works are of good quality.

Mr. LI said the facility will enhance the capabilities of Zambia hosting not only the African Union -AU -Summit slated for 2022 but also other international events.

And, Foreign Affairs Minister JOE MALANJI stated that the construction of the facility underscores the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Infrastructure Development Minister VINCENT MWALE said his Ministry as the project implementors will ensure that the project is completed in the stipulated period and standards are adhered to.

Mr. MWALE noted that Zambians can attest to President LUNGU’s determination to take development to all parts of the country in the short time he has been in power.

  1. Though someone had pursued inner circles of moody’s publications even saying of what would come in the name of downing economic market and directly points to meal mealie prices and other commodities.Obviously they had this agenda in dark areas. When that happens they want to act like prophet of reality but it’s propaganda. What is very sad is that regime change masters have made sure that the government is under captivity with several high quality schemes.when someone talks mostly is the outcome of their dark corner events.i hate politicians that sacrifice their fellow black People on the expense of white supremacy.

  2. But the way lungu is directing is as if this is not a gift from China ??

I am confused , if lungu can be directing so strongly on the 20% work force and local materials instead of the Chinese using cheaper Chinese labour and materials , on a gift from China , why was he not pushing stronger when Zambia was using its own money on other projects ?

  3. Zambia doesn’t need such structures when we don’t hv job, that thing won’t hv benefits for long than when we create mines e.g. gold mines that will stand very long time ad will generate billions of dollars for us all Zambians ad those in future.
But our leaders are silent of sure projects bt want them be in their pockets.
Leaders lets follow KK’s foot steps, he created industries that were sold by Chiluba ad to date no account of the money from the sales.

  4. His proud achievement when he is gone would be I fought for 20% to local construction companies when sketches, materials are being imported from China…what a dull chap!!

  5. At individual level would you receive a gift from a friend going through tambulant times? E.g a friend whose mum is bedridden with sickness?

  7. As I said in my comment above , I think Mr lungu is confusing a free gift with eurobonds……..Mr lungu is showing signs of mental fatigue ….

How can you dictate the terms of construction to cost more for the gifter , for something that is a gift ?

Chinese labour and materials are cheaper than Zambian and Mr lungu is dictating that they use more expensive tools when it is a gift from them ?

Am I missing something ?? Or is Mr lungu just trying to make up time by issuing confusing instructions ?

  8. This mad president is really amazing and doesn’t China Jianxu is known for grand corruption in most poor countries. Your time is coming soon to answer for corruption

  9. I saw lungu addressing European diplomats on a clip posted on his Facebook ,

    gee, the man looks shaken…..

Gone is the arrogant lungu who chased Foote, there was no more
    ” it’s an internal matter ”
bussiness , lungu was even pleading for the Europeans to be election observers in 2021…..I think the Europeans threatened to pull out of Zambia if the dangerous situation was not brought under controll…

From what I saw of Mr lungu, no opposition leader who is innocent need to worry….
I don’t think they will dare frame any opposition even if they wanted to…..they know they are being watched.

  10. ‘Gift’ with invisible strings attached! How many bugs will be installed? Has this country realised the national security implications? Other examples include the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport .There are so many grey areas in our policies and China loves it! Zambia needs to have Clear cut policies regarding construction in the country. The problem is that when you have borrowed so much that you can’t pay back, the lender will dictate terms.. Bible is true when it says that a borrower is a slave to a lender.. I can smell a rat on this ‘Gift’.

  13. IS IT A GIFT OR NKONGOLE. WE ARE HEADING TO ELECTIONS AND CHINA CAN NOT GIVE US A FREE GIFT BUT WE SHALL HEAR MORE AFTER BEHIND THIS FREE GIFT AFTER ELECTIONS OR EVEN BEFORE. TIME WILL SOON CATCH US UP.

  14. Please handle this project efficiently and cost effectively not corrupt, if us a project for Zambia and not PF and anyway PF will not be there to enjoy the facility in 2022. If we vote well with our brains, AU will be hosted by another ledership. Only guarantee for a PF come back is no alternative opposition except Triple HH candidature. Then the voters have no choice but corrupt and clueless PF.
Please PF give us a better candidate.

  15. I thought a few months ago this government got a $30million Lian to build the same. How has it become a gift now?Do we have investigative journalists in this country to probe this matter.

The chap has been quiet all this time innocent people were being gassed only to resurface to announce a git from China. Can the president ask for better gifts from China, gifts that can improve the livelihood of our sufferers instead this gift that we will never step our feet into!

  20. Osi b push – What jobs? That building has been designed in China and China will use their company and engineers and foremen, I am sure the Chinks have also designed it to utilize Chink materials no value thinking whatsoever …all you will doing is labouring and sweeping.
