Horizon castigates Government’s school takeover as illegal

Share

The Board of Horizon Educational Trust says the action by government to take over the school is illegal.

School Board Chairperson Leslie Mbula says the School is a business concern owned by Horizon Educational Trust and government cannot take over the business purportedly under the land acquisition act.

Mr Mbula says the Government can only compulsorily acquire the land and the buildings on it and not a business concern.

He has therefore demanded for the release of all movable assets such as computers, desks, books and teaching aids among others belonging to the Horizon Educational Trust which government is using without paying for them.

President Edgar Lungu last year compulsorily acquired Horizon School in “public interest” using powers vested in him by the Lands Acquisition Act.

  1. I think this matter runs deeper than the eyes can see. I remember some time back there was an intention by the current Turkish government urging some governments to ban operations of Horizon schools in their countries as they were linked to terrorist organization and where deemed as one of the funding sources. The closure of the school by government has to do a lot with international pressure. If I still recall Dora was Minister of Education under RB regime, there was an outcry how government land was given to a private entity. In short the whole affair was a bad deal from the beginning and now it has backfired.

  3. If the Turks say these schools are linked to terror financing against Turkish interests , there is nothing lungu can do……

edogan is ruthless , and is projecting a more assertive Turkish foringe policy.

Even putin and trump are getting headaches from edogan.

  4. The only thing Mr Mbula can do , if there is Turkish pressure on GRZ , is to seek advice from the isrealis.

We all know curbing Turkish influence is in the intrest of the isrealis.

However this advice maynot not be in the intrests of GRZ depending on which country has more influence in zambia and OP may not be happy.

  5. Deals done in the dark eventually come to light for all to see. Lets hear how it all began, on government land for a private enterprise.
More to come after 2021 general elections.

  6. Spaka – There is nothing Lazy Lungu can do because he is a beggar and was promised aid….when PF came to power and threw away plans for KKIA construction by the Turks to have Turkish Airlines have monopoly Sata tossed away guarantees RB had promised the Turks which is suffocating all sources of funding for the opposition he calls terrorists. The US, NATO, Russia have let Erdo?an get away with his brutality and oppression because of his country’s strategic geo-position in the region…its the gateway to Europe. EU can not say anything as he will open the border gates and flood Europe with refugees.

  7. Muna Dekhane – Unfortunately by then the school will be gone and it will just be a past story ….when you see a govt especially an African govt hell bent to close a school just know there are bigger forces behind at play…the school board and the faceless owners should be more proactive to get their message across..even show more transparency.

  8. Tarino Orange

Edogan has a bone to chew with the west for the attempted coup against him after which he purged the whole army , he sees the coup attempt as supported by the west.
On top of that edogan has overwhelming support in Turkey as a pro poor Islamist leader….

nothing the west or Russia can do to him with the kind of national support he has.

  9. Spaka – The people support him as they have no choice, its like saying KK had overwhelmed support when his brutal OP were everywhere including bars and taverns …..he is now scared of his own shadow and paranoid. Do you seriously think if the west backed his opposition he would even be bothered about closing these schools in Africa when the west can simply give his opponents blank cheques.
