Caritas commends ECZ

Share

Caritas Zambia Director Eugine Kabilika has commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia(ECZ) for conducting credible and transparent elections.

Mr Kabilika observed that the ECZ worked well with the election monitors who were assigned in various polling stations.

Mr Kabilika told ZANIS today, that monitors have submitted good reports on the efficiency of the Commission.

He explained that their monitors reported that all polling stations were opened on time and that everyone that queued up was allowed to vote.

“And the counting of ballots, all had been done according to the regulations provided by the ECZ,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Kabilika further noted that the delay by the ECZ to announce results for the presidential elections caused anxiety among members of the public.

“People were waiting long hours at Mulungushi. We went there on Sunday and the results were only announced in the early hours of Monday, people developed anxiety including members of the public that were watching on private and public television,” he added.

Mr Kabilika, however, expressed happiness that despite the COVID-19 restrictions, people turned up in large numbers to cast their vote.

“We can only be happy and congratulate Zambians for their participation. We are only sad that others lost their lives,” he said.

He called on members of the public to remain peaceful during the transition process by celebrating responsibly and avoiding violent acts.

  1. The same ecz which was ridiculed and insulted by upnd. Since upnd said that the ecz is corrupt then can we agree that the election result is not genuine since it was announced and managed by an alleged corrupt organised as per upnd sentiment? Upnd will be the worst party in history. Wait and watch. The upnd are already taking the law in their hands and attacking and arresting suspected pf supporters,

  2. Kaizar Zulu you are a very hateful man. Did you see how Pf tried to RIG the elections. How many people were caught with premarked ballot paper. You have been caught with your pants down. PF will go into history as the worst murderous regime in Zambia. You guys have too much innocent blood on your hands. This victory is for those who died under your regime. You have put a curse on your own families.

  3. The ECZ worked under very difficult conditions when it came to announce the Presidential Results it was obvious one candidate wanted to twist the hands of the ECZ commissioners but with the public being alert all such efforts failed to implement plans. One could tell that there was panic on the faces of ECZ senior officials but all could not work because God had heard the cries of his people and confused the PF camp nd scattered their plans into pieces. Apart they fell. In future such things should never be allowed where leaders for their own selfish intentions could set citizens against each other political, tribal nd regional lines. Let us all say Never Shall we Allow this country to divided lets all strive to Move Forward together as ONE NATION NO MATTER WHAT. But to those of our…

  6. It is important to acknowledge and salute the ECZ for standing firm despite the pressure and temptation to do the wrong thing. I was personally surprised positively by how they conducted these elections. I think our institutions, when empowered and left to work independently and professionally, can make our country proud and strengthen our democracy. That is how it should be. But I am disgustedly disappointed that there are some people who are still angry on this forum and still insulting each other and even leaders. Please stop it and move on in the spirit of reconciliation as one Zambia one Nation one People.

  9. Frankly they did a bad job, they were bias just that they had No Choice. Patrick Nshindano should be fired or better Resign, he is so arrogant and was stupid. Credit goes to the Chair not the ECZ CEO.

  10. Lungu can not hold free and fair elections. My goodness. If UPND wins, then they are very fair.
The fact is HH has been losing not because of ECZ inefficiency or Lungu ballot tampering. HH won a clean game because he didn’t rely on SP, NWP and WP.
