Share

The Drug Enforcement Commission has confirmed that it conducted a search at the house belonging to PF cadre Maxwell Chongu and seized his four vehicles.

DEC Public Relations Manager Mathias Kamanga confirmed the development in a statement this afternoon.

“The Commission wishes to thank members of the public that have been bringing information on suspected financial crimes particularly money laundering. The Commission has received a lot of reports in the past weeks, some of which have led to operations where various individuals have been searched and some properties seized,”
Mr Kamanga said.

“Among the operations conducted was a search at the residence for Maxwell Chongu where four (04) motor vehicles were seized. These include unregistered Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Hilux, a Mark X with registration number BBA 4238 and a Small Truck with registration number BAG 4331 investigation in this matter continues.”

He added, “As we have always stated, the Commission has a systematic and robust verification process of all pieces of information received different sources. This includes seizure of assets that are reasonably suspected to be connected to the allegations.”

Mr Kamanga said the other seizure is followed by further verification which may result in us either returning the property to the owner or taking further action as guided by the Law.

“The Commission further wishes to appeal to members of the public with authentic and verifiable information to report such matters for investigations. These reports must be void of emotions and vindictiveness and must not be a witch hunt. You can contact us on 0955 684 343 or 0211 255 114.”

  1. And why can DEC not act on their own account? They should have that information already themselves. And if not then they should be ashamed, and get replaced immediately with knowledgeable officers!

  2. Excellent!
The law is finally starting to function. There are several more who have benefitted from financial malpractice and corruption. They must all be made to account for their stolen wealth. I won’t mention any names. But we all know them.
Some where police officers who suddenly became millionaires when they became ministers. Some, as I understand, where renting a servants quarters in ndola and where party cadres in mmd. Today, after a few years in pf, they are multi millionaire. Some where teachers, but through violence became “presidential advisors”. The law must visit them all.

  3. Zambia never ceases to amaze and amuse … let’s hope this new activity of state institutions is here for good.

  4. Those donations you start receiving are poisonous to your governance, you should not celebrate when you can make your own money, a beggar cannot be respected ! refuse those donations they undermine your freedom to choose what you want .
I know some of my people will think otherwise but the truth is a gift always has a motive, find out why someone chooses to give to you even if you have not asked, by the way you don’t have to ask because you can make your own finances through taxes etc

  5. DEC picked this guy Max because they know he is dumbass cadre ..they tried it on that other cadre boy who won a tender to supply MOJ with Jeeps and he lawyered up before DEC could get their hands on his keys.

  6. And someone is wondering why people were booing Lazy Lungu…you have these chaps like Max who have built houses for his family and girlfriend has three vehicles with no tangible source of income and Lungu had the balls to say those were his people. How do you think a Student Doctor would feel when they are not even being paid an allowance?

DEC needs to sober up and work professionally. Investigate, gather a lot of evidence, build a case and proceed to an arrest and avail the accused to court within 24hrs.
These overzealous confiscation of properties are only hurting the institutions.

  9. These are wheel barrows imwe. Dont get too excited ba DEC, bring forward strong cases. we dont want Noel Prossecos like the times of you know who.

  10. They are like a useless dog which only barks when the master is around. A professional acts honestly whether his the sitting president likes it not. This fear of losing your job if you act professionally is the root cause of our problems. Leave Chongu alone since for seven years of Lungu administration you had not even invited him for an interview over his property.

  11. Innocent until proven guilty is the game here.
I see these guys in comments being misguided here. I hope you have adquate evidence.
Credible evidence is what you go with in the courts of law.
    Innocent until proven guilty.
