Government has commenced the distribution of farming inputs under the Dl Rain-fed component of the Food Security Pack (FSP) programme to vulnerable but viable households in Sinda district, Eastern Province for the 2025/2026 farming season.
The m reports that the distribution of packs which include 2 bags of compound and 2 bags of Urea fertilizer, 1 by 10 kilogram bag of maize seed and 1 by 10 kilogram bag of either soya beans or sunflower seed, is targeting 3,565 households.
Speaking when he flagged off the distribution, Sinda District Commissioner David Tembo reaffirmed the government’s commitment in ensuring that household food security is strengthened, for families faced with economic challenges.
Dr Tembo stated that the initiative marks a significant milestone in the agriculture sector as it is Sinda district’s main economic activity.
“This is an important initiative and policy by the government to see to it that farmers or households under FSP are supported with inputs, because agriculture is our main business here in Sinda and that way we can be assured of food security even at district level by harvest time next year.” He said.
The District Commissioner highlighted that the government’s timely distribution of the inputs to the beneficiary households, was to ensure that beneficiaries plant early at the onset of the rainy season, which will ensure food security in the coming year.
Dr Tembo further cautioned the beneficiaries against the sale of the inputs at very cheap prices, urging them to use the inputs only for their intended purpose, which will in turn enable them to help other households in need.
And in a vote of thanks, Agness Zulu of Nthongole area, expressed gratitude to the government for the farming inputs provided.
“Ours is to give gratitude to the government for this support which uplifts our social economic standing in the community as some of us did not know where to start from this season but the government has come through for us.”
Ms Zulu made a commitment that the beneficiaries will use the resources for what they are meant, in order to improve their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Sinda District Community Development Officer (DCDO) Memory Musitini has announced an increase to the beneficiary case load from last farming season’s 2,372 to 3,565 beneficiaries this season.
Ms Musitini said the FSP programme is an initiative which aims at empowering low-income households with essential agricultural inputs required to boost productivity, enhance nutrition, and promote self-reliance as well as reduce poverty at household level.
And the DCDO has since called on beneficiaries to use the inputs prudently to guarantee improved yields and ensure that poverty is curbed from their households.
