Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu has officially opened the National Football Indaba, aimed at providing a blueprint for sports and a renewed public confidence in football structures in the country.
The media reports that speaking during the indaba, Nkandu also disclosed that the government will continue funding the senior men’s national team, after it submitted resolutions that will improve the team’s performance.
Nkandu also called upon the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and other stakeholders to prioritise financial integrity, capacity building, and innovation in football management.
He said that there is a need for the country to embrace players’ performance tracking systems, data analytics and sports science that will enable the country to compete effectively on the global stage.
“From time to time, concerns are raised about how players are selected for the Chipolopolo,” said Nkandu.
Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) representative, David Fani also expressed the organisation’s commitment towards developing the sport in its member countries.
Meanwhile, National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Chief Executive Officer, Sombwa Musunsa, disclosed that the football indaba will result in the formation of the National Action Plan, for sustainable football in the country.
Musunsa also called on stakeholders for support adding that it will ensure that the action plan results in intended outcomes.
