Chawama secondary school gets K4.6million CDF-funded new block

Government has handed over a one – by six – double – story classroom block worth K4.6 million to Chawama Secondary School in Lusaka and disbursed K6,486,771 in skills development bursaries to 654 beneficiaries pursuing TEVETA-accredited training across the country.

Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata described the development as an investment in the future of children.

Ms Mulyata stressed that the building was not merely about infrastructure development but about investing in the future of the country’s children and empowering youths through skills development initiatives.

Ms Mulyata said this in a speech read on her behalf by Lusaka Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Alex Mapushi.

She noted that the classroom block was constructed under the 2020–2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) community project.

“Today is not just about brick and mortar. It is about investing in the future of our children. It is about creating space where dreams will be nurtured, talents discovered, and leaders shaped,” she said.

She said the six additional classrooms are expected to ease congestion, improve comfort and enhance the overall learning environment for pupils.

The minister further commended the CDF Committee for its dedication and oversight in ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

Ms Mulyata also extended gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for facilitating the increased allocation of resources through CDF, which has enabled transformative projects in communities.

“In addition to the infrastructure handover, as Government we are disbursing skills development bursary cheques amounting to K6,486,771 under the 2026 CDF allocation. A total of 654 beneficiaries have been sponsored to various TEVETA-accredited colleges across the country to pursue skills training in different trades and professions. Furthermore, 100 learners have benefited from secondary school boarding bursaries, with K419,870 paid to various boarding schools to support vulnerable pupils. Day secondary school bursaries have been extended to additional learners within the constituency to ensure that no child is left behind due to financial constraints,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chawama Member of Parliament, Bright Nundwe said he remains committed to ensuring that development is brought closer to the people of Chawama through CDF.

Mr Nundwe further encouraged teachers and learners to take good care of the school. stating that development must be sustainable.

“To the pupils, put more effort in your studies so that you can also contribute to the country’s development by being leaders of substance and knowledge. Education is the key to success and a brighter future,” he said.
