Dr. Musokotwane said the government has been adjusting its spending patterns in order to manage public resources more effectively and ensure the country operates within its financial means instead of accumulating unsustainable debt.
Speaking in an interview with the media, the minister said strict financial and fiscal discipline has played a key role in improving the country’s economic position.
He added that Zambia’s economy has continued to show signs of improvement as a result of the measures being implemented.
Meanwhile, Dr. Musokotwane acknowledged that the removal of fuel subsidies was a difficult decision for the government.
He explained that despite the move being unpopular, it was necessary in order to free up resources that can now be directed towards important government programmes such as free education, meal allowances and bursaries.
