ERB approves licenses, construction permits plus amendments

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 42 licenses, five construction permits and various amendments to licenses, recording a total investment pledge of K608 Million towards energy service delivery and infrastructure development.

The approvals cover electricity, renewable energy, and downstream petroleum subsectors, signaling broad-based expansion across Zambia’s energy value chain.

ERB Public Relations Manager, Namukolo Kasumpa, confirmed the development to ZANIS in a statement today.

Ms Kasumpa said the approvals were granted during the ERB Licensing Committee meeting held on 15th May, this year.

Regarding downstream petroleum infrastructure, Ms Kasumpa indicated that ERB authorised the construction of three new retail service stations and approved the commissioning of two additional stations for operational use.

“These developments expand compliant petroleum infrastructure and improve nationwide access to petroleum products.

“Additionally, the ERB licensed 49 petroleum transportation fuel tankers, reinforcing the petroleum supply chain, boosting national distribution capacity, and supporting supply security,” she stated.

She stated that the organisation also approved 14 kiosks for the retailing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas PG.

Ms Kasumpa further said easing consumer access is essential to this product.

In the renewable energy subsector, Ms Kasumpa said the ERB approved a license for a 10-MegaWatt Photovoltaic power generation plant to be executed by China Jiangsu International Green Energy Limited.

She explained that the approval supports sustainable energy systems in line with national energy policy objectives.

Ms Kasumpa also revealed that the ERB approved 10 licenses for the manufacture, supply, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy generating equipment.

She said all licenses and permits were issued under the Energy Regulation No. 12 of 20 I9, ensuring full regulatory compliance.

“The ERB remains steadfast in its commitment to regulating the energy sector in the public interest, with a sustained focus on compliance, operational efficiency, consumer protection, and long-term sustainability,” she stated.
