Grade 12 Pupil Arrested Over Theft of 35 Bags of Maize Meant for School Feeding Programme

Police in Lukulu have arrested an 18-year-old Grade 12 pupil of Lukulu Day School for allegedly breaking into a school storeroom and stealing maize meant for the school feeding programme.

Rae Hamoonga said 35 bags of maize, each weighing 50 kilograms and valued at K17,500, were stolen from Lukulu Primary School on March 14, 2026.

According to Mr Hamoonga, the suspect accessed the storeroom using keys that had passed through the hands of several teachers the previous evening.

The theft was uncovered after a teacher spotted the suspect and an accomplice loading maize onto a motorbike near the school kitchen.

A third individual, identified as Lubasi Kakanda, 29, was later apprehended after arriving with a wheelbarrow to collect additional bags of maize. He subsequently led authorities to the other suspects.

Police recovered five bags of maize valued at K2,500 near the storeroom.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to recover the remaining 30 bags.

  1. 18 years stealing from a school! There must be a senior personnel or a teacher involved in this plundering, let’s wait for more information.

    • He’s just following in the footsteps of his parents who are now in the cabinet and in the opposition. The country is openly led by people with such initiative
