Government committed to supporting the tourism industry

Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba says the government remains committed to supporting the growth of the events and tourism industry.

Mr Sikumba notes that the government will ensure that it implements policies that will contribute to the thriving of the tourism sector.

He added that the government is also using infrastructure development to improve and enhance tourism experience for both local and international visitors.

The media reports that the Minister said this in a speech read for him by Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary (PS) Evans Muhanga during the Members and Industry Mixer 2026 organised by the Professionals Association of Zambia (EPAZ).

Mr Sikumba disclosed that the government is using targeted interventions such as improving tourism infrastructure in key tourism destinations.

He said this is aimed at promoting Zambia as a preferred tourism destination.

Speaking earlier, Events Professionals Association of Zambia (EPAZ) Chairperson Cisanga Mwanza says the Association is committed to professionalising the sector and strengthening standards in the hosting of events in the country.

Ms Mwanza stated that EPAZ, as an Association, has positioned itself to serve as a structured interface between industry and the delivery of national events.

“We are a growing body of professionals committed to professionalising the sector, strengthening standards, and ensuring consistent, high quality delivery across events hosted in Zambia,” she said.

She pointed out that EPAZ aims to bring about accountability in the manner how events are hosted and delivered.

Ms Mwanza noted that if Zambia is to compete regionally and globally, there is need to place deliberate focus on standardisation in national event hosting.

She said EPAZ wants to ensure that quality, safety, and coordination in the hosting of events are not left to chance, but are consistently delivered at a high and predictable standard.
