President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated the government’s strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China’s Head of State, Xi Jinping, towards development.
The media reports that speaking at the official re-opening of the Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles (ZCMT) Joint Venture in Kabwe today, President Hichilema thanked President Xin Jinping for the strategic partnership between the two countries, emphasising that nothing happens by chance but through intentional effort for the benefit of the people of Zambia.
President Hichilema stated that the government’s love for the people of Zambia drives the government’s commitment to work hard and develop the country.
“The revival of Mulungushi Textiles is the awakening of Kabwe and the province at large,” he said.
President Hichilema highlighted that Kabwe will be revitalised through numerous government-led initiatives, reiterating that the plant is owned by the people of Zambia and China in a joint venture to benefit the Zambian populace.
“Let us work together with one agenda: to develop Kabwe and our country. We want to see this plant fully realise its potential so that more value can be added,” he stated.
He also called upon textile workers and farmers to do their part in ensuring that the factory is supplied with necessary produce, such as cotton seeds.
Speaking at the same event, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, revealed that 200 megawatts of solar power will be established at ZCMT through the Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles Power company to meet the energy needs.
Mr Mulenga highlighted that the industrialisation of Kabwe, with numerous investments in the province, is a result of the government’s favourable investment environment.
He also announced that 6,000 out-grower farmers will be empowered to supply cotton to the market for ZCMT.
“Another production line will be added to the facility by the end of the year, which will produce bedsheets, chitenges, and curtains,” he said.
ZCMT Managing Director, Ju Wenbin speaking on behalf of the Chinese shareholders, said that President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed his commitment to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Mr Ju noted that the project has made significant progress, emphasising that it is a testament to the efforts of past leaders and a foundation for future generations.
“We’re confident that this project will strengthen the long-standing friendship between Zambia and China,” he added.
Zambia Manufacturing Association (ZAM) President, Umar Muhamad, attributed the success of the initiative to the government’s pro-development agenda, noting that this is evident through the many ongoing developments.
Meanwhile, Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa stated that the province currently contributes about 58 Billion Kwacha to the country’s GDP, citing the need for the Province to continue advancing in development.
Earlier, Kabwe Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Kapai Banda committed to being an active partner with the government to make Kabwe a competitive hub again.
He pledged to work towards creating marketing linkages across Central, Eastern, and Southern Provinces, emphasising that strengthening these value chains is a source of national pride for now and the future.
Kabwe Member of Parliament Chriszoster Phiri thanked the Head of State for the revitalisation of Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles, emphasising that it will create more jobs.
The Zambia Freedom Fighters Association National Chairman, George Chewe and Copperbelt University Student Union President, Busuma Mulungushi described the revamping of Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles as a symbol of hope and renewal, which aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Zambia Freedom Fighters Association kikikikiki
That Mulungushi textiles reopens every elections year.
What is to “reopen”?
What he has opened is just one room which is the printing room to be exact which basically prints the design onto the material. There is no buying of cotton, there is no production of material. This room will close after elections.
Some may not even know that during KKs time, Livingstone, just Livingstone alone had 32 textile companies making all sorts of fabric including blankets. This is a fact. Yes you heard me right, 32(Thirty two)
Thanks Greens, even google supports.
Historical Context (Livingstone): Historically, Livingstone was a significant textile hub, with studies from the 1970s and 80s showing approximately 25% of Zambia’s textile and clothing factories were located there, benefiting from raw material availability.
Zambia is not Zambia anymore but China
Oh, Fiat cars were assembled there too.
Thanks for this history above. Sometimes when expectations are low and shielded in propaganda, you celebrate anything, just like these chaps are celebrating aka kamozi ka textile ku Kabwe
@PP Greens, so what there were 32 textile companies at one time or the other? Question, how many plants were there when HH came into office? Answer: 0 (zero).
He opens 1 which is high tech and you are writing nonsense.
You should be rejoicing that Zambia has a textile company after many years but what you and 2 others are writing comments.
The last time I checked HH did not close any of the 32 plant you are talking about.
Kikikikiki and it will run out of production materials after election year and it will be closed by January 2027…..That Factory is outdated and it always runs at a loss….Chinese Factories in China are killing alot of businesses around the world
Now now let’s wait for the promised 800 workers to be employed
/
Very negative and expecting failure. What kind of a loser are you ?You are not even aware of the new modern equipment installed!
Our generation is so lazy Mulungushi ni PROJECT yaba KK mwebantu , WHERE IS THE CREATIVITY in us the educated? This can not work we must be talking about completely new projects in completely new places. This is a show of clear lack of vision, plans, creative social economic thinking and commitment to the people CHAPWA.
It’s not negative thinking give credit where credit is due Someone has already mentioned what’s there
minimal equipment .. and nowhere near 800 workers we all have opionions you welome to yours
Like the last 60 + years most of you will wake up when the horse has bolted
Meanwhile enjoy your renumerations and lets chat again in the future when reality sinks in
@mac gyver
Yes Fiat cars were assembled in Livingstone and driven to Lusaka half the parts fell off.
Hilarous
Some of you are enemies of development…………
Even if a company that employs 10 people is opened by GRZ , that should be applauded,……….
But the tribal supremacists are choking seeing there is no door for them until 2031…………
Even after 2031 , UPND will carry the day on the waves of HH until 2036…….without a shadow of a doubt……….
And if a right successor to HH is chosen, is no door for tribal supremacists until 2041………
Thank you mr president for breathing life into this, a dream of many Zambians
We are here
FWD2041
This country is more devided now than any time in the past
and not politically devided only
It shall take a good number of years before we wake up and take real control of our resources. This man really inspired hope while he was in opposition and I think he should have stayed an opposition politician. Nothing much to offer the country but lies and figments of his imagination.
You are so right was much better as an opponent
PF was a government of thugs. They were only busy looting the resource of the country. Tribalism, corruption and collection money from bus stops and markets was the order of the day. Now all Zambians are benefiting. Those who are complaining are the ones whose were looting the resources.
You are in UK but still very dull.If you think turning around an economy whose GDP was in -1.8% in 2021 to a GDP growth of +6% is child ‘s play thithiagain.Only someone economically illiterate like you expect overnight prosperity after yrs of mismanagement by your people. You think 5yrs is enough ?You plant a seed and nature it to grow.Thats when you harvest.Go to school bros. Those sh!t jobs ou are doing won’t help you
This company only reopens during elections and closes soon after
Mulungushi has been closed for many years and opening is an economic strategy. It matters not who opened it first. The country has been purchasing military uniforms, police uniforms and nursing uniforms outside the country at an exorbitant price. School uniforms were expensive for our kids.Farming of cotton by our farmers was not yielding much.Mulungushi is an injector into the economy.Lets just learn to appreciate not exhibiting nonsense all the time pls
