Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing farm blocks as a way of improving productivity in the agriculture sector
North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Luckson Mulumbi said this when a consultation team from Kudu Consulting paid a courtesy call on the Provincial Administration.
Mr Mulumbi says that government attaches great importance to the development of farm blocks, adding that the initiative should complement the mining activities taking place in the region.
He said there was need to actualise the implementation of the farm block concept, which was initially introduced in 2008 in the province.
Mr Mulumbi added that once fully implemented, the programme will integrate both commercial and small-scale farmers to ensure smooth operations and maximise benefits for local communities, particularly in Mushindamo District.
He further emphasised the importance of investing in supporting infrastructure such as roads, power supply, schools and health facilities to enhance the success of the farm blocks.
And Kudu Consulting Assistant Team Leader Thomas Simfukwe says the team was in North-Western Province to hold stakeholder meetings and engagements aimed at gathering information for the formulation of an investment strategy
Mr Simfukwe says the consultations will help come up with a comprehensive plan to support the development of farm blocks in the province.
He added that the engagement process will also promote private sector participation in order to enhance investment and ensure sustainability of the initiative.
