The Republic of Angola has pledged to continue with its policy of good neighborliness with Zambia.
Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete Antonio, says Angola believes in a fair and balanced foreign policy and good neighborliness.
Mr Antonio made these remarks today when he officially opened the Ministerial Meeting of the 34th Angola-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security being held in Luanda, Angola.
He highlighted that the two neighboring countries need to start conducting combined awareness meetings along the common border lines in order to resolve misunderstandings.
Expressing concern over increased levels of conflict in the region, Mr Antonio called for a holistic approach in curbing illegal crimes such as illegal migration, organised crime among other crimes.
“Zambia and Angola need to work together in many areas of interest such as the Lobito Development Corridor and also find new areas of cooperation,” he stated.
Speaking at the same opening, Minister of Defence, Ambrose Lufuma, said Zambia is also committed to the Joint Permanent Commission and other trade agreements to foster enhanced development.
Mr Lufuma, noted that Zambia wants to see the Lobito Corridor Project, the construction of a railway line and a pipeline from Benguela to Lusaka to be a success.
He further thanked the Angolan government for its commitment to enhancing trade and development between the two countries.
And Angola’s Minister of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans, Lucio Goncalves Amaral (Rtd) said the construction of border facilities, roads and energy infrastructure will foster trade between the two neighbors.
General Amaral revealed that tarrying of the Jimbe-Mwinilunga road in Zambia will contribute highly to the promotion of trade and movement of people between the two countries.
This was made available in a statement issued to ZANIS by the Ministry of Defence, Principal Public Relations Officer, Paul Shalala.
