President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the people of Western Province that government will proceed with the construction of an airport in Kalabo District.
Addressing a public rally in Kalabo today, President Hichilema directed the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development to ensure that works on the Kalabo airstrip begin without delay.
The President said infrastructure development remains a key driver of job creation and economic growth, adding that Western Province needs more industries to expand employment opportunities.
“There is a need to have many industries in Western Province so that more jobs can be created for our people,” President Hichilema said.
He thanked the people of Western Province for supporting the United Party for National Development (UPND) during its 23 years in opposition and for the overwhelming vote in the 2021 General Elections.
He noted that their support enabled government to introduce free education, increase the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to K40.6 million per constituency and accelerate the construction of schools, clinics and other development projects.
President Hichilema also urged aspiring candidates to remain loyal to the party even if they are not adopted for the August 13 General Elections.
“It is not possible to adopt everyone. Those who will not be adopted should support those who will be, so that development continues,” he said.
During the event, the President welcomed defectors from various political parties and called for unity and peace as the country heads toward the general elections.
He appealed to residents to support the UPND again to ensure continuity of development programmes.
