The Wonderful Group of Companies has revealed that the procurement of equipment for the 600 megawatts substation Thermal Power Plant in Sinazongwe District has reached 80 percent.
The Energy Project which is being developed in partnership with ZCCM-IH, combines coal mining and power generation to boost Zambia’s electricity capacity while promoting regional development in Southern Province.
Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Hapenga Kabeta stressed that the coal mining operations in the area must deliver real value through local employment, skills development and community participation.
Dr Kabeta was speaking during a high-level government inspection visit to the plant.
And the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Siazongo Siakalenge called on investors to establish a new township in the area, ensuring that the project does not become an island of success in the midst of poverty.
Mr Siakalenga highlighted that this will integrate the project with the local community as well as create wider economic benefits for Sinazongwe District.
Meanwhile, Wonderful Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roy Mwamba, expressed that the major deliveries of the project are expected once access roads are fully opened.
