Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary, Gabriel Pollen has called on communities in the country to embrace the spirit of togetherness, family and collaboration.
Dr Pollen stated that the move helps to build a better Zambia.
He was speaking during the launch of the Lusaka City Council 2026 Half Marathon scheduled to take place on the 4th of July 2026 at Nakatindi Grounds in Lusaka District.
”Lusaka City Council has taken this initiative of bringing the communities together, and in doing that, we recognise the collaboration the government is making with the private sector,” he explained.
Dr Pollen said the 2026 Half Marathon initiative will not only facilitate private sector engagement but also strengthen the already existing interactions to make the communities productive.
He indicated that the initiative also translates a gesture by the local authority to save and provide the much needed local services to the public in the district.
Dr Pollen explained that the event aims at promoting healthy living, environmental sustainability, and community participation as well as encouraging the community to take an active role in keeping Lusaka Clean and Green.
Speaking earlier, Lusaka District Commissioner, Rosa Kayuni reiterated government’s call on the communities to desist from indiscriminate disposal of litter.
“We have waste bins in the city, but people are still throwing litter anyhow, I do not know what is wrong with us,” Ms Kayuni said.
Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia, Public Affairs Specialist, Panji Banda assured the local authority of his organisation’s support for upcoming related events.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Sports Development Officer, Agness Mweetwa urged the community to take part in numbers during the forthcoming event.
