Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Lewis Mwape, has urged public service workers to uphold professionalism and remain non-partisan as the country approaches the 2026 General Elections.
Dr Mwape says public service workers are obligated to support government initiated programmes and projects as doing so is in-line with Public Service Workers Code of Ethics.
The media reports that the DPS was speaking during an engagement meeting with health workers at Chipata Central Hospital.
” We are all fully aware that the Country will hold the General Elections on August 13, 2026. I therefore urge you to be non-partisan, ” he said.
Dr Mwape emphasized that the government has demonstrated unwavering commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of development across all parts of the country through decentralization policy.
He advised public service workers to reflect on government’s people centered policies that are transforming livelihoods for the better, citing the free education, social protection programmes and the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF) among others.
He added that President Hakainde Hichilema’s government is aware of the financial burdens facing public service workers and has introduced progressive policy reforms and amendments to various laws aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary said the government has consistently implemented measures to reduce financial stress in the civil service, including pension reforms, upward salary adjustments and timely disbursements of pension benefits.
” All these strides are worth mentioning because of the considerate governance style of President Hakainde Hichilema, so let us continue working hard for the people through this government,” he said.
