Thousands turn up to listen to President Hichilema in Western Province

President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the people of Kaoma district in Western Province to vote for all the United Party for National Development (UPND) candidates in order for his administration to continue developing the area and country at large.

President Hichilema noted that voting for the opposition is denying the much needed social and economic development which the country needs.

The Head of State was speaking today in Kaoma when he addressed a mammoth rally held at the Kaoma Youth Resource centre grounds.

President Hichilema outlined some of the developments achieved under his administration such as employment of over 45,000 teachers, recruitment of thousands of health workers and inclusion of the aged under the Social Cash Transfer.

Others are bursaries under the education sector and the signing into law of the free education policy and the 20 percent NAPSA partial withdrawal for workers in the public service.

President Hichilema has since reassured Zambia of his administration’s commitment to continue reducing the cost of living as evidenced by the reduction in fuel pump prices.

“I urge you all to vote for UPND again for continued development. As a government, we are making a lot of progress on further lowering the cost of living, just two days ago, we reduced the price of diesel from K32 to K28,” he said.

President Hichilema further appealed to the electorate not to vote for independent candidates but instead vote for UPND candidates because independents allegedly do not have his blessings.

Speaking at the same event, UPND Alliance Chairperson, Charles Milupi, highlighted the development happening in the road sector in the country, including in Kaoma district.

Mr Milupi said the expansion, rehabilitation and construction of roads across the country is evidence that President Hichilema’s administration has a vision to interlink Zambia with other countries.

He added that President Hichilema wants to open Zambia to other countries for investment, which will in turn improve livelihoods.

Meanwhile, UPND Deputy Secretary General, Gertrude Imenda, noted that all those alleging that it is a waste of time to expand Mongu airport are liars.

Ms Imenda noted that Western Province has a lot to offer and having a larger airport will attract investments in the tourism and agriculture sectors.

And UPND National Youth Chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso, urged the people of Kaoma to vote for President Hichilema and all UPND candidates in the district so that they continue to enjoy development taking place.

The ruling UPND has fielded Morgan Sitwala as its candidate in Kaoma Central and Luhamba Mwene for Mangango constituency respectively.

And in Luampa in the same province, President Hichilema asked residents to give the UPND another mandate in the forthcoming general elections to sustain the country’s development trajectory.

Speaking to a huge crowd at Kasheke grounds, Mr Hichilema, said re-electing the UPND will safeguard the peace enjoyed in the past four years and protect the free education policy, which has now been enshrined into law.

The Head of State urged voters to support UPND candidates at all levels, warning against returning to past regimes that subjected citizens to harassment.

“You want freedom or go back to those who used to beat you? Those who used to beat you have just changed the name of the party but they are the same people,” he said.

President Hichilema also said creation of a new constituency in Luampa district will double Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation in the district.

“Within the (CDF) we have money meant for school bursaries, grants and loans,” Mr Hichilema said.

Meanwhile, UPND Alliance Partner, Charles Milupi, asked the people in the area to retain the UPND in power saying this will enable the upgrade of the Luampa-Kaoma road to bituminous standard.

Mr Milupi said the process of upgrading the road commenced during his tenure as Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.

Meanwhile, UPND National Youth Chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso, appealed for married women to be included in the Social Cash Transfer programme, while Luampa East aspiring parliamentary candidate, Makozo Chikote, urged residents to vote for the UPND to accelerate development in the area.

Zambia goes to general elections on August 13, 2026 and several other presidential candidates are conducting campaigns around the country.

The incumbent President is in the race with Howard Kunda of Zambia We Want Party (ZAWAPA), Fred M’membe of Socialist Party (SP), Brian Mundubile of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), Brian Mushimba of Organised People’s Party (OPP), Ackim Njobvu of Democratic Union (DU) and Richard Silumbe of Leadership Movement (LM)

Other presidential candidates are Kelvin Fube of Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP), Given Katuta of Movement for Economic Emancipation (MEE), Xavier Chungu of Liberal Democrat Party (LDP), Harry Kalaba of Citizens First (CF), Daniel Pule of Christian Democratic Party (CDP) and Richwell Siamunene of New Focus Party (NFP)

Over 8.7 million Zambians have been registered as voters and are expected to cast their votes in the Presidential, National Assembly, Mayoral, Council Chairperson and Ward Councillor elections on August 13, 2026.
