Zambia Police Service has intensified preparations ahead of the elections saying they have put in place measures aimed at maintaining peace and security before, during and after the electoral period.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi said with elections drawing closer, the Zambia Police Service has assured the public that it is ready to safeguard peace and security through enhanced monitoring, public engagement and deployment of officers.
“As the police service, we are and will provide security in polling stations to make sure that no one is intimidated, dispersed and exercise their rights to vote and refrain from enumerated offenses” said Mr Chilabi.
Mr Chilabi said the police service is working closely with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and other stakeholders to ensure that the country holds peaceful elections.
He revealed that there will be adequate security at every polling station on the day of the elections and even after the announcement of the results.
“We sat with political parties to ensure that they abide by the election campaign timetable” he added.
He further stated that the Zambia police service has developed a manual book called the 2026 electoral security plan, this is a comprehensive plan that has areas which have been classified as medium risk and high risk in terms of political violence and will help guide them in the deployment of officers.
“For first time voters and everyone out there, remember to exercise your rights as it is a constitutional right,” he explained.
