The Kwacha receives a facelift as BoZ launches new notes for the blind

The Bank of Zambia has issued new notes with a tactile feature to cater for the visually impaired.

The special marks are in the form of slanting lines on the front of each denomination ranging from two slanting lines on the lowest banknote for K2 to seven slanting lines on the highest denomination of K100.

These range from two slanting lines on the lowest banknote of 2 Kwacha to seven slanting lines on the highest denomination.

Head of Communications Kanguya Mayondi   said this during the official opening of a workshop on the new tactile feature on the Zambian banknotes in Lusaka.

Mr Mayondi said the banknotes with the special tactile features are intended to be rolled out during the course of the last quarter of 2015.

Mr Mayondi said the move is timely as not all visually impaired persons are able to read Braille marks.

He said the current banknotes will circulate side-by-side with the new banknotes with the tactile feature without a time limit for withdrawal from circulation.

He added that the feature will not only benefit the visually impaired but all Zambian as it provides an extra security feature and make counterfeiting difficult.

And Zambia National Federation for the Blind Executive General Secretary Keshi Chisambi commended the Bank of Zambia for the move saying it is an important undertaking which will protect the financial privacy of the blind.

  1. Progress guys.
Hats off to President Lungu for being forward thinking.
That is the way the economy will build…One block at a time

    • Is the credit due to President Lungu or the BOZ? How is the economy being built, are the new bank notes of higher value than the old ones?? Even if nikachawa . this beats logic

  2. As long as they don’t put on it a face of any president, dead or alive, I’m perfectly fine with a facelift

  3. Mwapangas nashimbi. PL thinks that they can fool us. This money is meant to pay the farmers.

  4. That is one way of printing more Kwacha. Having said that, however, it is a commendable gesture to take care of all sections of our society. Well done BoZ.

  5. thats great my presido.u have done well for thinking about the visually impaired.

  6. I am really surprised how Some bloggers here are turning Lungu into their god, showering praises even where he is not involved. This added feature is not Lungu’s initiative, I would not be surprised if Lungu himself were not aware of this new feature.

    • mr lungu is the president of zambia and he knows and he is the one to say what goes or not.

  7. @Napapa Sana, had the face lift made the Kwacha appreciate against the major currencies, i would have agreed with those glorifying Lungu. As things are now you hundred percent. Not worth to hero worship. This is a way of trying to print more money an inflationary causer
