PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he will work hard to ensure that there is food security in the country.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call at the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy yesterday, President Lungu said that he will ensure that he came up with programmes that would address climate change and in turn address food security issues in the
country.

Mr Lungu assured FAO that he would work closely with them to ensure climate change issues are mitigated.

”We need to adopt the best farming practises in the agricultural sector to boost food production in food deficit areas.” he said

Mr Lungu said government under the Ministry of Gender has been running a programme to promote value addition in the agricultural sector.

He also said government was engaging the private sector in the agricultural sector in order to boost agriculture.

And FAO Director General Jose Graziano da Silva has asked Zambia to access funds under the Green Fund to mitigate the impact of climate change.

The FAO Director General also disclosed that the global environment had authorised FAO to run the Green Fund.

FAO was running a programme to introduce the latest inventions and technology in the agricultural sector, he said.

Dr Da Silva further noted that FAO wants women to play a critical role in the agricultural sector.

And FAO Deputy Director General Helen Senedo commended government for successfully implementing programmes under conservation funding.

President Lungu was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda

and Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy Gertrude Mwape among some other senior government officials.

The President also signed in the Golden Book of FAO.

    • Yesterday, ZNBC news reported that Zambia is exporting maize to Zimbabwe. The Farmers Uniond had advised of hundreds of thousands maize deficit for the year and the president is busy telling jokes! Truth is he will work hard for re-election and nothing else. This man has failed at everything

  1. Ministry of Gender? Give the work to the right ministries so that we get things done properly. We have been donating and allocating funds to women’s groups for many years, sewing machines, vigayo ….yet nothing profitable has come out of that. Too much guess work from successive Govts.
Why don’t we set a target and say we should have 200 new commercial Farmers in 5years in each province using modern farming methods. Be it dairy farmers, fish farmers, cattle….

  2. Really laughable and ironic that this utterly lazy bum has even these words “work hard” in his vocabulary!!

  3. Ba presido, by now you should have put strategies in place to ensure there is enough food for every one especially given the economic eventualities…..farmers need have been given support for harvest not just for this year but even next year and after…..when are you going to work when all you do is fly around the world……bet you and your old looking wife say opportunity knocks but once!!! Natuleya… Fi kadolly…..look at them….

    .

  4. jay jay , what have you done in life? Your negativity will send you to your early grave. It’s insane to contradict everything in life especially whatever good or bad the pf is doing. Tell us your achievements in your life. I am afraid you are more empty tin than the people you think are. Jay jay check your self first, I personally know you as a failure. Look at your family how poor they are, but you are always bragging on social media Lungu , this Lungu that. Its nonsense bwana do your work and help your starving family. If you believe I am telling lies here allow, me to expose you on this forum.

  5. It’s terrible to be a UPND cadre, as bad as suffering from that new small brain disease caused by the Zikas virus.
How else would you explain such ignorant comments? Do they realize that they are also insulting the high international UN officers running those organizations including the Pope who met President Lungu. Do they think think that those officers and the Pope waste time meeting useless people?
Ignorance ya baUPND kuti yatu ipaisha kunsala.

  6. It is easy to say “work hard” when you yourself do not even know the meaning of the words!

I suppose stealing a clients money is “working hard”

Useless clown! Zambia can do better than this!

  7. How are you going to ensure food security? By baying back Zambian maize from Zimbabwe or Mozambique?

  8. After ONE YEAR Zambia is still waiting for this kabotolo ksdanda man to finish his party and start work fixing Zambias problems.

We are tired of just seeing news of Lungu on holiday at the UN, Italy and France at Taxpayers expense.

To “work hard” mr president YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO START WORKING! Empty words are NOT work
