Lifting of the ban on Zambian registered airlines will boost economy-EU

Share

The European Union says the lifting of the ban on Zambian registered airlines into the EU airspace will provide immediate economic benefits to Zambia.

The EU delegation in Zambia says travel agents across the globe now have information that the country’s airlines are safe.

EU Head of Delegation Alessandro Mariani says this will see an increase in the number of tourist inflow because international tourists will now be able to have confidence in using local airlines.

Mr Mariani says travel agents will now be able to process flights for European tourists to Zambia because travel insurance would not cover that.

He has attributed the lifting of the ban to a number of solid works over the years.

Speaking during a briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Mariani also revealed that Zambia’s Civil Aviation Authority has an opportunity to benefit 3-million Euros in support from the EU aimed at assisting it improve safety performances, regulation and training o

He said the EU is also working on a new program with the Ministry of Transport and Communication and Civil Aviation Authority worth 5 POINT 6 million Euros as part of further consolidating air safety in Zambia.

Transport and Communication Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu is optimistic that the resumption of Zambian registered airlines flying into the EU airspace will boost exports of fresh agro produce.

Mr Lungu said Zambia has continued producing organic products which are on high demand in the EU.

He said current development projects like airports and a national airline being undertaken are coming up at the right time when the ban which lasted for 7 years has been lifted.

And Civil Aviation Authority Director General Gabriel Lesa said the lifting of the ban is a reflection of the hard work by authorities which has now made airlines in Zambia and Africa even safer.

    • How did they get banned when Zambia airways had such a good record? Let chiluba rot in his grave the biggest thief who started the corrupt mind of Zambians. Now we have the so called PF fools who can not even think about their people but their stupid Tummies. Its a shame what MMD and PF have done to Zambia.

  1. What airlines do we have in Zambia to enter EU? Maybe prof light can lease an aircaraft from South Africa.

    • Just pray that Lazy Lungu doesn’t go to EU to contract a loan to buy Airbuses from them to further in-debt us.

  2. This woman is talking rubbish…Whether ban is lifted or not I do not think there will be any immediate boost in tourism…its not like the local airlines like Proflight will suddenly want to fly to Europe. International tourists will still use their own preferred choice of airline be it Emirates or Kenya Airlines then connect to the local destinations using local airlines. As long as African skies are not liberated it will still be costly to fly these local flights which drive overall international rates.

This is again is a no brainer by this PS, surely how does an Aircraft registered in Zambia help boost fresh agro produce…what is stopping you at the moment. Don’t we use the same RSA, Kenyan registered or international aircrafts that fly in the same route charging competitive rates?

  5. Nothing will change.Tourists and produce exporters will still use Kenya Airways,ET,SAA or BA because they have more established safety, reliability and better network records.

If anything, our small local airlines might even fold due to their lack of exposure, lack of competitiveness and experience in the dog eat dog world of int’l flights.

  6. This is where African Trophies end up further creating a billion dollar industry. They write books about it and make millions off Africa claiming conservation. They make rifles to come kill our wildlife, they advertise Trophy Hunting of African wildlife in Europe, Canada, US, and South America. Transactions take place in Western and European destinations further building their economies while creating jobs while Africa is being raped of her resources. Our leaders being clueless agree thinking the EU Lifting the Aviation Ban on all Aircraft’s registered in Zambia is a good thing when it only benefits the EU

  8. Where is EU now?ejected by the Brt It’s even been rejected by the Brits because of it’s ways. It is not good for Zambia and we reject anything they have to offer.
