Fire has swept through Kasama’s biggest Buseko Market, destroying properties worth thousands of Kwacha.
A check by ZANIS this morning found onlookers trying to catch a glimpse of the gutted properties.
One of the affected traders, Peter Simwanza, 35, told ZANIS reporters that the cause of the fire is not yet established but believed it started around 03:00 hours.
Mr Simwanza lamented that the inferno has left him with nothing as all the merchandise in his hardware shop and a kitchenware have been burnt to ashes.
And Clious Mutambo, 33, said he is equally left with nothing because all his capital has been burnt in the inferno.
He has since appealed to government and other well-wishers to help the affected traders with start-up capitals.
Mr Mutambo also called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter in order to establish the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, quick action by a combined team of fire fighters from the council and airport saved the fire from spreading to other shops at the market.
PF has burned the market because they think marketeers support the opposition.
Marketeers should think about insuring their goods with the rate that these markets catch fire. Too bad

@Nubian Princess:::you are talking of insurance in a Zambian traditional market.Before i advise you,go and tell the marketeers this message and see if u will back with all yo teeth in yo mouth.In the first place Nubian,how do you insure kapenta,beans or fish that hasnt been selling for month & half.Are you insane?Or maybe you were just born in Zambia and grew up in America,where they insure even a household teaspoon.Stop imagining things,visit home & see how your PF has destroyed people’s lives.
The only way I can think of would be to insure the entire market as one entity where by marketeers pay the premiums to the landlord and the landlord pays the insurance company. Just a thought.

I did not think it was political when I heard it from my aunt who is a trader there. But reading the UPND comments here on LT reveals it all: the hand of UPND. This party strategy seems to be create riots and fire and point the finger at PF. How evil! You are dealing with peoples lives please. I hear that despite GBM Kasama has remained staunchly, visibly and stubbornly PF and this has not gone down well with GBM
and his image to HH.
