Top 4 big guns set for Barclays Cup semi duel’s

The top four sides on the FAZ Super Division table this season converge on Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe this Saturday to battle for a place in the final of the 2016 Barclays Cup.

The doubleheader will see two former champions clash and two ex-runners-up also duel in their respective penultimate stage fixtures.

In the lunchtime kickoff, perennial campaigners Zanaco, who have never won the Barclays Cup but have qualified to each championship, face Nkana.

Nkana are seeking their first final appearance since 2014 when they lost 2-0 to record four-time winners Zesco.

Zanaco have not been in the final since 2010 when Zesco also beat them by the seemingly proverbial 2-0 scoreline.

This will be second placed Nkana and current league leaders Zanaco’s third meeting this season.

Zanaco beat Nkana 2-0 in the first leg league clash in Lusaka in a rescheduled Week 7 fixture on July 2 but were flattened 4-2 away shortly thereafter on August 26 in Kitwe.

But Nkana will be without Walter Bwalya who scored a brace in the final leg.

Bwalya is suspended for the quarterfinal after he was sent off in Nkana’s 3-1 quarterfinal win over Kabwe Youth Academy on September 17 in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Zesco and Power meet in the late kickoff in what will be the two sides’ fourth competitive meeting in 2016.

Zesco beat Power 2-1 away in Kitwe and 4-0 at home in Ndola in league engagements after losing to the latter in the season-opening 2016 Charity Shield semifinals on post-match penalties in February.

Furthermore, two-time Barclays Cup champions Power have only beaten Zesco once in three meetings in the Cup.

Power face another tall order against a team they have not beaten in open play since August 23, 2014 when they defeated the Ndola side 2-1 at the same venue.
