DUNDUMWEZI Constituency in Kalomo District in Southern province will have the first chiefdom Museum which will officially be commissioned today
after undergoing a facelift to meet the National Museum Board required
standards.
The Museum situated in at Chikanta palace would be the first of its
kind, as it would depict the history of the Tonga people of the
chiefdom, culture and lifestyle.
Government has spent about K100, 000 on the renovations and expansion
works of the building which has also seen the creation of office space
and a storeroom where the exhibits were being stored.
Choma Museum and Craft Centre Trust executive director Bevine
Sangulube said the works has been completed and the Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs
Lawrence Sichalwe will commission it.
Ms Sangulube said all the works has been completed and was happy that
the project is completed.
“The Chikanta Museum will be commissioned on Saturday (today) by our
Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs,” she said.
Government embarked on the rehabilitation of the museum in May this
year and works has been completed to meet required standards of the
board.
The works on the building included the expansion of the building and
also the construction of toilets.
A number of activities have been lined up this weekend in the chiefdom
according to the programme released by the Chikanta Development Trust,
Apart from the launch of the museum, other events include the
Chungu Traditional Ceremony commonly called Lwiindi and Open
Defecation Free (ODF) celebrations.
The first event would be the commissioning of the museum and
thereafter the main event of the activity would be the ceremony and to
be accompanied by the ODF celebrations.
Government through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs
embarked on construction of Chief palaces and museum at Chiefdoms in
the country.
So Government was already spending developmental funding in Dundumwezi after all. So only the 250 people appreciated this
