The Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has challenged the new Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga to execute her duties freely without any undue interference from any section.

NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale said her organisation was saddened that some private media houses have been closed in the last few months.

Ms. Mwale hoped that Zambia will again witness freedoms of expression and of the press under Ms. Mulenga’s leadership.

She said in a statement made available to ZANIS yesterday that NGOCC had no doubt that Ms. Mulenga, who is also Kalulushi Member of Parliament, will excel in her new portfolio.

Ms. Mwale added that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services is critical as it anchors and facilitates one of the fundamental rights of freedom of the press and expression.

She added that for this reason, the NGOCC further hoped to see greater coverage of diverse voices in the public media as opposed to the current status where the public media is allegedly only a preserve of a few.

The NGOCC has since congratulated Ms. Mulenga on her new appointment.

“It is also our desire that President Edgar Lungu will continue to appoint more women to positions of decision making. Once again, our hearty congratulations to Hon. Mulenga on her well-deserved appointment,” Ms. Mwale said.

  1. “The Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has challenged the new Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga to execute her duties freely without any undue interference from any section.”
Some challenges should just be kept to themseves…surely have you just crawled from under a rock you are asking an appointee of Lazy Lungu who happens to be a minister in Zambia to execute her duties freely without any undue interference….really laughable.

  2. Congratulations for what? You cant see that the country is in regression. This country is gone, it is finished, Don’t even give yourselves false hopes. A president arrives from abroad, is always asked at the airport, how his meetings were abroad, the most consistency answer is ‘the meeting was successful’ , complete no trickle down effect. Successful yes, because you have earned your allowances. How about the rest of us, Ba Satana

  3. I am in support of the guy who suggested we give back this country to the British. That’s the type of referendum which should be having. On our own, we have failed. Neither the ruling nor the opposition party can take us anywhere. We are wasting time.

  4. We blacks have a problem, we can’t rule ourselves due to selfishness. The educated and an educated same genes. It is not about inferiority complex but cursed.

    • So are you calling Jesus cursed? He too had black genes. Maybe you do not know that the Hebrews multiplied in Africa in Joseph’s time.

  5. Congratulations for what? Merely appointing a woman as a minister excites some of these dysfunction ngos. Mapenzi a woman, UPND supporter was killed in cold blood by PF govt during the peaceful campaîng in July 2016 and yet their organisation was quite not even a condemnation was heard. What interests are they serving or protecting? We demand answers.
