Shinde supports foreign imports in FAZ Super Division

Nkana legend Jericho Shinde has supported the increasing presence of foreign players in the FAZ Super Division.

Divided opinion has emerged over the continued rise in the number of foreign players in the top-flight league.

About 18 foreigners are training with promoted Super Division side Buildcon with the hope of being signed on.

Shinde said foreign players have added value to the league.

“That is healthy in any case. I mean this is now a global village. It (having foreign players) has helped our game to improve,” he said.

He challenged local players to up their game amid the rising number of foreigners in the league.

“It is up to our local players to believe in themselves. They should compete on the same level with foreigners. The ball is in their court,” Shinde said.

Last season, Nkana and Zesco had over five foreign players in their respective books.

  1. If Zambians were as dedicated to football as the players from war torn DRC, Zambia would have been at the FIFA world cup finals. Even in Europe we fail to make it except the days Kalusha and his friends. Examples are players like Musole Sakulanda, Felix Nsuzu and others …these players started soccer as far back as 1980 and continued well into early 2000s while our players became destitute due to indiscipline.

  2. Imagine!
But its ok for Zambians to flood the South African league, DRC or any other country but not the opposite to happen.
Common bane, just pull up your socks and compete with the ‘pros’ after all it not the cream of professionals coming to Zambia why fear?

  3. This noise about foreign players should stop. How many English players are in Man United or Chelsea? Mean while you are busy supporting foreign clubs and you don’t understand why they perform very well: competition bane! Shinde is very right! Look where Isaac Chansa is playing at the moment: Iraq for crying out loud!

  4. Some approach to presenting football issues can really mislead the fans. An opinion of a single individual is now being viewed and understood as if Zambians do not want foreigners in Zambian football. Who gathered such information? I am sure there is none save for an article that conveyed possibilities but not facts. Common Zambia you can sure do better than this.
