Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Buleti Nsemukila has implored Luapula Chiefs and Members of Parliament (MPs) to help in finding ways of stopping School girls in the Province from renting village huts which put them at risk of being sexually abused.
Dr. Nsemukila said at a consultative meeting between traditional leaders and MPs held in Mansa.
The Permanent Secretary said the practice is complex because some girls are coming from well to do families who can afford boarding fees but prefer renting nearby village huts instead of being in School boarding facilities where they exist.
He said it is important for traditional leaders and MPs to find ways of stopping the practice because many young girls have become victims of early pregnancies which result in child marriages.
Chief Nsamba of the Unga people of Lunga District appealed to the Ministry of General Education to ensure that boarding facilities are put in place in all rural Schools which should cater for both boys and girls.
The traditional leader added that school premises must be fenced to control the movements of the School girls and boys to help in curbing illicit conduct.
I cry for for how my country has been reduced to a poverty case under pf. He was employed n deployed to solve problems this one inclusive but he is telling us about the problem. The girls mayb safe in the very thatched houses than in school facilities. A research can help them PS know why they prefer thatched houses than school facilities
That sexual abuse you suppose could happen is usually mutual and can happen even when a girl lives with parents. they rent those huts because they want the education which is more important. Girls are not a like vehicle that can be driven into a ditch without reacting. they think and have rights to reject wrong acts. DO NOT DENY THEM THE MUCH NEEDED EDUCATION
