Vice president Inonge Wina has challenged the banking sector in Zambia to engage government in its effort to ensure that there is financial inclusion among various players , particularly the farmers.

Mrs Wina says it was therefore important for financial institutions such as banks to also partner with government in the implementation of e-voucher and the current titling exercises that are in process.

The vice president was speaking when the united bank of Africa country chief executive officer (CEO) Emeka Dimanochie paid a courtesy call on her.

ZANIS reports that this was contained in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today

The ADB CEO was accompanied by Tebuho Yeta, Senior Business Manager and Moneka Matakala, head marketing and corporate communications.

Financial institutions were an integral partner in national development who can play a role in youth empowerment to counter unemployment, Mrs Wina stated.

She also called on the bank to promote intra trade in Africa which the UBA pledged to follow up as this formed the cornerstone of the bank’s business in Africa.

Also present in the meeting was Stephen Mwansa, Permanent Secretary, Administration, in the office of the vice president who acknowledged that UBA bank was the pride of Africa because it was run by Africans for Africans.

Mr. Mwansa said in the statement that UBA bank should spread its services in Zambia in order to capture the great number of people that remain unbanked.

And Mr. Dimanochie reiterated the need for empowerment and said his bank was targeting women because they proved to be a serious business partner with a successful record of payback in as far as loan repayments were concerned

The CEO mentioned that UBA has been presence in 19 countries and would increase to 25 countries in next three years.
