Zambia have made a flying start at the 2017 COSAFA U17 Cup in Mauritius that kicked off on Friday after a 7-1 win over Madagascar.
The result sees Zambia top Group B on goal difference at the tournament Mauritius is hosting from July 21-31.
Lameck Banda and Martin Njobvu scored a hat-trick each in Port Louis barely 24 hours after Zambia arrived on the Island.
Banda scored in the 9th,31st and 37th minutes while Njobvu joined in on the act in the 19th, 42nd and 74th minutes.
Kingsley Hakwiya scored Zambia’s third goal in the 24th minute
Madagascar’s’ consolation came via 79th minute penalty converted by Maimosa Adriamalala.
Zambia have 3 points, tied with 2nd placed South Africa who beat Mozambique 3-1 in the early kickoff in Port Louis.
South Africa and Zambia meet on July 23 in their penultimate Group B match that will see the winner qualify to the semifinals with a game to spare.
