Ethiopia deny Zambia third straight win

Ethiopia denied Zambia opportunity of a third win on the trot when they held Chipolopolo at home on Saturday.

Zambia and Ethiopia finished 0-0 in a friendly match played at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

The draw halted Zambia’s two-match winning run following back-to-back 4-0 away and 3-0 home victories over Swaziland last month in the 2018 CHAN first round qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Zambia were guilty of wasting chance after chance at Woodlands against Ethiopia.

Augustine Mulenga had a great chance in the 15th minute parried over by Jemal Bushura.

Ten minutes later, Ernest Mbewe fired his shot into the side netting and in the 32nd minute Justin Shonga.

Captain Ziyo Tembo could have put Zambia Ahead before the break but headed the ball wide in the 42nd minute.

Zesco striker John Chingandu too had an opportunity after the break to get in the score sheet wasted when his 76th minute header flew wide.

Zambia were using the friendly to prepare for their 2018 CHAN final round, first leg qualifying date date against Bafana Bafana on August 12 in East London.

The final leg will be played on August 19 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Winner over both legs will qualify to January’s tournament in Kenya.

  1. THat is Wada for you,,Useless for nothing coach….lets get a better Coach, Wada is taking us to no where….a draw with lowly ranked and unknown Ethiopia in African Football is wake up call..Wada may have the exposure but lacks depth and understanding of modern football. Over and above that, he is emotionally immature…HOW COME..WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD YOU HAVING ISSUES WITH KALABA, FWAYO, CHAMA, CHISAMBA…..the list is endless. …

  2. Trouble is on us am beginning to think so, the earlier we realise the better other wise there are no indications of better things to come, the players in the team are there on trial basis we don’t have a team for now that we can say this is a tangible team.

  3. Zambia currently has youngsters who are hungry for goals and who love attacking football. You have all seen how the age group teams love to pump in the goals. We haven’t had teams that love scoring for the past 20 years. Remember Zambia thumping Burkina Faso 5-0 in the nations cup in 1996? There’s been a drought since then.
The Under 17 and u20 have shown us just what kind of attack minded football loving dribblers we have. All we need is a similarly minded coach and technical team to polish them up and we can play like Brazil and strike terror in opposition defences across the continent.
We don’t need conservative park the bus coaches with boring catanasio defence systems. Football is about goals not ma 0-0 draws. FAZ wake the hell up!

  4. @ EFWENI B HIBALWA- We ethiopians co founded CAF..before you were even born. We are not unknown….though ranked low in Africa..we are rebuilding our team and we look forward to be better….if you think we don’t worth paying with you. .call the weak Swaziland and play again.

    • How many times have you won the Africa Cup or appeared in the Finals? It is not co-founding of CAF that will make you known on the African Football scene – you are known for marathons because your runners have done it in major tournaments on the planet, and not because you have the best running terrain.

    • Thank the heavens that we offered to play you friendly…You may have co-founded CAF but that does not make you a better side…Anyway, i do not blame you..I blame our useless coach . A better general will never go to war leaving his strong Impis behind…

  5. When Fwayo was left out, I was annoyed. Later l learnt that Kalaba, Fwayo, Cletus Chama have a poor disciplinary record. At that point I gave kudos to WADA. Let his clean up the Mess.

Indisciple players are not disciples. You have my full support and blessings to show them the door.
