Zambia recorded two wins, two draws and two defeats to finish runners up in Group B with 8 points just behind group winners Nigeria.
Speaking after finishing the World Cup qualifiers with a 2-2 home draw against Cameroon on Saturday, Zambia deputy coach Aggrey Chiyangi said his side has picked cardinal lessons from the campaign.
“After playing these games it has taught the team lessons which we have to build on,” Chiyangi said.
“When we come to play the Africa Cup games it will be good for us because our team has tested how to play tough games and how to play against tough teams,” he said.
Chiyangi’s boss Wedson Nyirenda has been blending under-20 stars in the Senior squad.
“There is a lot of hope in our team. When we played the first games against Nigeria and Cameroon we were building a new team.”
“When you look at the team we have today most of the players are young and if you look at their performance is excellent,” Chiyangi said.
Meanwhile, the 2019 Africa Cup qualifying campaign resume next March with Zambia travelling to Namibia on day-two of the games.
Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau jointly lead Group K on three points each after winning their opening games against Zambia and Namibia respectively earlier in the year.
So they’re still playing? I thought we were already out. Anyway, stay Keep your heads high Chipolopolo!
And make sure you step up your performance from game to game because your competitors don’t sleep. We will always hold your back!
Why was the stadium empty?
Because the game was just about fulfilling a fixture.
The boys are very good but the technical bench has limited knowledge on game management. Remember U20 at the world cup was leading the Germans 3-1 but in 5min they equalised and went on to win in extra time. Again Beston let the boys down..game management. Yesterday same story 2-1 +90 they equalise…technical bench need training and exposure particularly on this technical aspect!!! My dutch coach would “kill” whole team to lose in injury time after leading 3-1.!! But I salute the boys!!
Correct
How many lessons are going to be Having Aggrey?
What a pattern: The results from each of the teams played were the same at home and away – Lost at home and away to Nigeria, won at home and away to Algeria, and drew away and at home to Cameroon!!!
Real Dabwitso
To be honest, i am so disappointed, how can say Chipolopolo form impresses bench while they have failed to go further to the world cup…………?
We shall all buy calculators for the Africa Cup
For both Cameroon goals we had a number of players just standing around not marking anyone at all, our Achilles heel is our lack of concentration & discipline defensively, as well as a suicidal tendency of wanting to defend slim 1 – 0 or 2 – 1 margins, only 2 goal or more advantages can be defended, not single goals!
Otherwise I saw the future of Zed in Enock Mwepu & Patson Daka, identify other players in defense & the defensive midfielder positions & we can target AFCON 2019 & the FIFA WC Qatar 2022, seriously!
thats why we dont improve,As a team u aim to impress your fans but in this case only the technical bench is impressed.
What form when we have failed to qualify for the World Cup. The technical bench has lamentably failed. Please take a leaf from Renard and Morocco. At first attempt he qualifies Morocco to the World Cup. Those are marks of good and great coaches not Wedson Nyirenda. He is not a good coach to handle the National Team period.
The blending never came from the Bench but the call on so many times by the Public. The technical Bench never listened until they were forced to do the right thing.actually we just need the entire under twenty set to be the senor national soccer team just leave Mweene chapwa the rest should rest.
@Popopo mwasosa, the Technical Bench is a out of their depths. Everyone knows there is a problem at the back. But they have the same players and the same tactics and same results. Either change the players or change the tactics.
Renard failed to qualify chipolopolo to the world cup too.Only Ng’onga and Adrian chama are not national term materials.
