President Edgar Lungu says Zambia is committed to carrying out the mandate of the African Union(AU) and what it stands for.
President Lungu said the country remains resolved to implementing the Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA) and Single African Air Transport Market (SATAAM) among other agreements.
The Head of State said it was encouraging to learn that 23 member states declared their commitment to implement the SATAAM decision during the January 2018 AU summit.
President Lungu said this at State House when Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Mahamat paid a courtesy call on him today.
Meanwhile, African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Mahamat has hailed President Lungu for his relentless efforts in fighting early marriages which is a major problem on the African Continent.
Mr. Mahamat said Zambia has for a long time been a key player in liberating many countries on the African Continent.
He further expressed his displeasure with conflicts going on in some African countries saying that there was urgent need to restore peace and security as it is cardinal for social and economic development of any given country.
Lungu will say anything to appear relevant.
The truth be told, he is only committed to corruption.
He is all talk, no action. The only thing seeing action is his bank accounts.
The African Union (AU) will host a heads of state summit in Mauritania on June 25, under the theme Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation. Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu will also be at the summit, showing support for its cause.
Yet on the very same day his country will be moving further away from the anti-corruption ideals of the AU. As Lungu sits down with other African leaders to talk about possible ways to eradicate corruption, six Zambian activists will sit in a dock in Lusaka to be prosecuted for protesting against corruption.
AU is irrelevant to African people. It’s a mutual admiration club of African leaders. They arrange big banquets for African elites and it ends there. There’s a so-called security council that does nothing but offer sinecures for some military officers at headquarters in Addis Ababa. As we speak now Cameroon is in violent turmoil and a month ago was Africa Freedom Day. Not a word from ECL on problems in Cameroon and drownings in the Mediterranean in his speech to mark the occasion.
Great news. However, when will GRZ start implementing mandatory provisions of African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights which come in force on 28 December 1988???
