Weekend Scorecard

Embattled Herve Renard breaks his silence tomorrow when he dates the press after morning training in Lusaka.

Renard has ducked the press since Zambia lost 1-0 to Egypt at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe on October 10 in their penultimate 2010 Group C qualifying match.

The Frenchman this week came under attack from his own camp in particular the nomadic German-based midfielder Andrew Sinkala whom he dropped for the match against Rwanda.

Sinkala took a swipe at Renard and poured his heart out in the local press over his relationship with the Frenchman and it is hoped the latter will have something major to say on this issue during his briefing.

Meanwhile, in the midst of the brewing clouds, the team went about the business of preparing for the crucial Rwanda game away in Kigali this Saturday that they must win to book their place at the Africa Cup in Angola in January.

Zambia need to beat Rwanda to safely secure the third and final qualifying berth in Group C they currently hold on 4 points against the latter’s 1 point, although a draw will suffice for the former to book their place at the finals in Angola.

And goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene arrived from South Africa this evening together with the Israel based-duo of striker Emmanuel Mayuka and midfielder William Njobvu.

Earlier in the day, Given Singuluma from TP Mazembe, Mamelodi Sundowns player Felix Katongo including he Amazulu duo of goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje and defender Kampamba  Chintu all joined camp in Lusaka.

Captain Christopher Katongo and defender Joseph Musonda all joined the squad on Sunday.
Jacob Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba are both being expected later tonight and tomorrow respectively.

Zambia are expected to leave for Rwanda on Thursday.

  1. i thought Chris katango was suppose to be in the country on Sunday but anyway he played 90 min in his clubs 0-0 draw with FSV Frankfurt but they are still top with 28 pts one point clear of the second team. Andrew sinkala played 90 min too in his teams 5-4 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth sinkala’s team are currently 7th with 18 pts

  2. The man is not the reason for Zambias soccer woes, the talent level in the country is. Here is a clue, our country is run by sellout, muzunguwanga anikonde black men and women. I say revolution time.

  3. No: 4, its true wat u hav said. The coach is not to blame, the material we hav is not ready for big team- wen others wer preparing themselves us we wer just busy praising how great zambia was, – this is the end result. bring in any coach zambia will go nowere let the coach try to put somthng in our untrainable boys. Sinkala, mbesuma & many more ar just talkative for nothing, check on mbesuma. he went missing is SA again- wen the come to zambia in camp thats wen u want to go to yo banks, hell no

  4. Faz is to blame over the foolishness hapng rite now- u want the coach to explain the sleeping in kitwe (3players in a room) or the 60pin paid to players come on. u want him to put gadgets in the players heads wen the fail to follow instructions we press …………. another player Jonas he went 6 days late the last time he came here. its the crop of players and not the coach. Wat has Faz done to prepare ourselves for the future- the failed to construct the under 20 due to age cheating. Let som1 tell us wats our way forward will b otherwise the coach Thumbs up, we ar just punishing u mwandi

  5. Yes Sinkala spoke hiz mind out, and he may be right about everything. However, there should have been a more “diplomatic” way of doing it. Can imagine the mood in camp if Herve Renard or indeed any other coach were to recall Sinkala! There will be need for a lot harmonization. For the Brave Rangers, well done! Pleaze ensure maximum points from the last gamez, we don’t want any arithmetic to bounce back to premier.

  6. It gives me joy to see my team Brave Nchanga Rangers doing so fine and just a point away to bounce back to the top league . Keep it up boys and all the praises to the coaching staff. BRAVO !
