Kenya drop Jesse Were

Zesco United striker Jesse Were has been dropped by Kenya for October’s 2019 AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia.

The Zesco hit man has been a Harambee Stars mainstay despite his competitive drought for Kenya over the last three years.

Were has score 16 league goals for Zesco this season and is two behind leader Idris Mbombo of Nkana but exited the 2018 CAF Champions League without a goal.

But his Zesco club mate, midfielder Anthony Akumu, and Nkana defender Musa Mohammed have made the cut for the October 10 away date in Addis Ababa and home leg on October 14.

However, Zesco defender and Kenya captain David Owino will miss the qualifier due to injury that has also seen him sidelined with the defending FAZ Super Division champions for the last two months.

Kenya are second in a tight Group F where all four teams that include Sierra Leone and Ethiopia are all locked on 3 points heading into match- day three and four of October’s doubleheader fixtures.
