Zambians abroad and Money

Share

By Bishop Jeston & Rev Charity Katebe
www.royalglobalchurch.org

If there’s a subject that the Lord Jesus taught a lot more than others during His physical presence on earth, it is money and property. The Apostle Paul also writes that, “For the LOVE of money is root to ALL evil…” (1 Timothy 6:10), which is often misquoted as ‘money is the root of all evil.’ Jesus spoke so much about money because He knew how important it is to humans and some effects it can have.[quote]

We have met and prayed with a number of Zambians and other Africans in the developed countries who have left their families in hope that when they find a better living (ways of earning money). Some say they will try and get their families over and others still, want to raise money and go back home then start some business. The need to have money causes us to sacrifice a lot of things.

Of course there should be a limit to the sacrifices that we make. What shall it profit us to earn a lot of money and lose other things that are valuable also? We have seen how immigrants work so many hours even at the expense of their health and relationships, to earn the ‘mighty’ dollar (Matthew 6:19?24). The problem is that in most cases we stretch ourselves with financial commitments such as credit card debt (we use money we don’t have), store debt (keeping up with the Jones-es) and support of relatives (whom sometimes we have given false impressions) back home and at the same time provide a living for ourselves.

Money or the desire to have it should not steal valuable things from us. We should set priorities such as the relationship with God (who gives us the strength to earn a living) must be our first (John 15:5), and then our spouses and children (If we have any). We need to realise that riches are temporary (1 Timothy 6:17), they fly away some times. Let money be a servant and not our master, to control us. Let’s purpose to live within our income as life does not consist in the abundance of things one has (Luke 12:15).

  1. This is good food for debate. I think upbringing has a lot to do with how we all relate to money matters. If you look at some of the richest people in the world – whether Rockefeller, Bill Gates, Abramovich or Adnan Kashoggi, they all had a simillar childhood in common They all learned to be accountable for their property at a very early stage.
For me, Its always been important to know that its the wrong attitude that makes money a problem. The more I put my ego before my principle, the more money I need to define my status. Its tricky.

  2. It seems to me that Africans like to use the bible as an excuse not to work hard. They quote verses from the bible which seemingly frown upon ‘the pursuit of wealth’. Wealth is relative. Most migrants are just looking for a chance to work. In Zambia and other third world countries these chances are hard to come by. These people are not trying to amass wealth as this article might have us believe. I wish African Christians would stop peddling these third rate sentiments. White people and Asians work extremely hard in their countries, and they do not feel guilty. Stop heaping guilt upon people who are just trying to look after themselves and their families! We can’t all become presidents of dodgy NGOs.

  3. The problem with us Zambian women is we like expensive stuff even when we can’t afford it. I must say before I ever go to Zambia I go on a shopping spree to buy myself clothes so I “look” like I live abroad.Shallow and lame I know but the last time I went to zed in cheap clothes I got a lecture from my aunties. When people from zed come to visit me they look down on my cheap car (which is energy efficient) they expect me to drive a large posh gas guzzler just like the Jones next door!

  4. There was time in the 1970s when Zambians dreamed of getting good jobs in their own country, much like their neighbours in Botswana still do. We all know how things have turned out. Things that poeple used to buy as a matter of routine in the 1970s are now luxuries. Africa has been going backwards while the rest of the world has been moving forward. Too much heaven on peoples’ minds!

  5. Good artcle but to be frank about that let’s not have an excuse of not working hard coz of the bible. Today china is like that coz those people work extra hard as well as japans most people today in zed are pastors and rev. Coz they can’t find jobs so let’s do both if we have a chace of working hard and serving the lord the we shall prosper as well As fight poverty in our beloved land zed. If you wana live like a king work like a slave and remember God don’t like lazy people.

  6. Bishop Jeston, your observation is very true ,the problem with Africans abroad is that we still think we are home and everybody will take notice of our little achievements like big cars ,expensive furniture and so on.As you rightly say at the expense of relations and health. We forget that most the people in the western world started work when they were sixteen and some started saving money by then ,clever ones bought houses in their twenties ,they afford holidays almost every year to anyway in the world .When an African in his late thirties or forties get a job they want to quickly catchup and impress onlookers because that is cultural especially Zambians and South africans ,the end result is debt .Then ,they have fill the bottomless pit of dollars in Zambia with all sorts of moni requests.

  7. You see, the mis-interpretation of the written word has promoted a lot of laziness in Zambia. Humans must be innovative and hard-working in order to better their living standards. Fact is when one travels to Zambia to assign jobs to pipo if he has a little project going on, they take too long to accomplish even a simple task. I was in Zambia a few weeks ago. I was shocked how much time it took RDA to put asphalt on a road from Tina Trust school in Avondale to where the Americans are building their new embassy in Ibex. They took weeks for a job of one night’s work. In the city of London, they are laying underground gas system along all the roads. Each road they finish, it only takes them one night to strip off the…

  8. …whole road and re-surface it with asphalt the thickness of anything up to 30cm while in Zambia it could be anything less than 3cm. This is whole done in one night no matter how long the road is. Now, if you think we can develop at that pace you can come and cut off my head. Besides that one does not need to be a civil engineer to see how poorly constructed the new road is. Its the road only can qualify to be constructed in one’s yard. However, I agree with the writer on wrong impressions pipo abroad give. But one thing for sure whether 1 is educated or not pipo abroad are more informed than those at home and they need encouragement by good economic policies at home.

  9. #2 Nine Chale You are wrong. Adnan Kashoggi and Abramovich have nothing in common with Gates or Rockefeller. Gates and Rockefeller are self made billionaires. Abramovich and Kashoggi are creations of state asset stripping and grand corruption and in the case of Kashoggi he was also involved in arms trafficking. These are not honest businesmen.

  10. What exactly does Bishop Jeston & Rev Charity Katebe want to disseminate to the readership?
These tuntemba bishops and reverands are just in business and earn a living from contributions by the same zambians or black members. I ve come across a lot of these Zambian crooks who have set up churches, as a way of living because they are too lazy to work. The take advantage of naive Zambians who they con out of their hard earned income.
You chaps should know that we are not abroad to suffer but to live our lives the best we can and we could go back home if we need to without a problem. Afterall, home is home.

  11. One of the 13 Satanic bloodlines that rule the world is the Rockefeller bloodline. The Roockefeller are involved in the promotion of the occult and Satanism, and the control of the Christian denominations.

  12. #10 Mbulawa If you take time to read my comment properly, I said their CHILDHOOD and UPBRINGING have something in common. How they individually ammassed their wealth is a different issue. Kashoggi could have eventually gotten rich by trafficking arms but he had to learn how to learn how to save money at a very tender age – just like others.

  13. nice article though some bloggers want to be controversial. #12 mule what the bishop is trying to say is set your priorities right as you strive to make money.Don’t sarifice your health or relationships for the sake of money and live within your means.

  14. This article is fake as it does not apply to modern Zambia. Zambians are among the least to migrate and only migrate because there are no jobs back home. The same Bible says “if a man does not work he should not eat.” So in order to eat we have gone abroad and as a result our families benefit from the few pounds and dollars we send them. This kantemba bishop earns his living by talking rubbish. He needs to find a real job. Most pastors talk crap these days, here is a man discouraging people from working hard and then you wonder why Zambia is still backwards and going backwards still!

  15. This is good!. I have to point out though that people misunderstand what living abroad is. Living abroad just opens up to more sincererity and accormodating more divegent views and working much more harder. I really do think that people abroad have so much hunger for money. In fact the most of them just want to live a more humanly life. The besic that our country have failed to provide. In other countries where life is good people dont even care whethere you are living at home or in America or at the moon. There is just no difference. The problem is mother Zambia. Things there just dont work and so go out there and try

  16. We would be more happier to be at home but hey, you may not have a Job for years and you may even die of frustrations. Even when you finally get the Job, it comes with politics, since everything is politicsed. In shot, you had to be a bootliker to stay alive. If these things can change, one would not even see a difference between being abroad and living in Zed. But as things are, youjust have to hung out there in Newyork and enjoy a little bit before coming back to Mutendere and drink Chibuku

  17. Zambia is a beautiful and mavelous Country. Really God given and blessed piece of land. But we seem to have missed it somehwere on the way. Thieves and mecenaries came in, in the form of politics and squarndered all the good God gave us. Unless we stop the lies from the so called leaders and the practice of having rejects to be our ministers, Zambia will always be a rubish pit. It would then make nonsense to live and contribute in there.

  18. Thats why i dont put too much of my ass in the bible. It took me 1 year to get a job in zambia. It took me 4 weeks to get job here.I remember Imakando preaching about christianity and migration the topic was “Why Stay and Die”.Please fake preachers leave us alone. You are every sunday begging in churches from the poor,If you dont need money then lucky you.
The bible has injected zambia with a high dose of laziness. What am trying to say is i hate this preaching thing in zambia,Its so misssleading and makes people accept that they deserve to be poors coz JOB was poor. What nonsese.Wake up zambia.Work and earn money and live a life you deserve anywhere on earth You are not JOB in the bible. You have the reality with you.

  19. I think for those who have been around the streets of New York, Amstadam and the like know what I am talking about. Things are different. But if you say I am a bit dishonesty by comparing things, then what about other neighbours. Ofcourse not the equally wasted Zim!. Now they have to regulate the media, after protecting Chiluba and Saling Zamtel. Oh, by the way, I read somewhere the Presido was telling people not to appeal in Chilubas case becasue they voted for him in 2001. How can this be a reason coming from plot one. Who said that if you elect someone then forget about the wrong he will do?

  20. The late South African Scholar, Ezekiel Mphahle wrote in his autobiography , “In 1947 I decided not to go to church anymore because I found Christianity had no answer for suffering humanity.” He said this becaus at the time pastors like this one told him it was ok to suffer under aparthied because when he dies he will live in paradise in heaven, meanwhile the whites were enjoying paradise on earth. What rank of hypocricy? To be christian does not mean you lose your falculties.”Get rich or die trying” to quote from a gangster rapper,is the only way you can put food on the table. No pain,no gain!

  21. The wise King Solomon made it very clear in Ecclesiastes 10: 19 and I quote: A feast is meant for laughter, wine makes people merry, but money answers everything. This is wise king himself. This notion that MORE MONEY,MORE PROBLEM is unbliblical and an incentive for laziness that should not be tolearted at all costs.Everyday,I pray to the LORD to reach me ways of making money!!Nice celebrations from Norway. That what I call being Zambian. How I wish the guys in UK would do the same.I saw it for myself, most of the guys in UK are NOT proud of Zed.

  22. My religion categorically states… ‘POVERTY IN THE HOME, IS WORSE THAN 50 LASHES IN SLAVERY!!!!’… no wonder the majority are successful and business owners.

  23. These bootleg bishops like to pass opinions and somehow try to pass it off as if it’s scripture when it’s nothing but misguided thoughts. Any man that makes a broad sweeping statement of all immigrants from their little interaction with a few really needs clinical help. The number of clowns in the pulpit is really tarnishing scripture and making a lot of people lose faith because of such people. From what I know most stories of migrants are made up of malicious intent coupled with sanctimonious refusal of reality. The bible itself says YHWH makes rich and makes poor. So if someone is working hard to be wealthy and comfortable it does not tarnish their relationship with YHWH, YHWH makes people wealthy as for them to help others.

  24. The real reason why you bootleg pastors are mad is because most hard working immigrants don’t show up at your church to give you tithe hence making you broke. So when you see that your tithes are stryggling you are quick to condemn people saying they are working for the Almighty dollar not YHWH . Nowhere in the bible is there a command to go to church on sunday and listen to some pastor, on the contrary there is a command to work hard and help the widows and orphans.

  25. They are plenty of people in the bible who were considered filth in their time and yet found favour in God’s eyes. Case in point, JOB. Ironically, his name speaks volumes, yah!!

Nonetheless, I agree with the author that rich or poor, we have to set our priorities straight. But there is nothing sinful about working hard in order to support and feed those you are responsible for—-yourself and family.

In fact, in comparison to Zambians abroad, people back home work much much harder for very little. Just visit your village, if you have one, and see how hard your relatives toil scrape a living just to survive. It is even worse when you factor in the health of most of these people.

  26. I do not agree with this pastor. He is yet again wrong. Life in developed countries is not real. Doesn`t this pastor know that even the locals borrow to go on holiday, buy a new car and change that kitchen? Most of them have by now already started working hard to buy those christmas presents. How many times do we hear about locals changing their bathrooms, kitchens and wardrobes? Do they pay cash? Pastor ulefwayafye umutulo! The problem we have is we all want to be the same. Yeah save money and go back and start business. Go to Uni so that when I go back to Zambia nine ba mwine! All this is because we have even pastors, reverends, bishops or whatever they call themselves in a government which does not care about it`s people.

  28. Iwe pastor, would you let your mother back home go 2 days without inshima, when you can easily send them money using a credit card? I wouldn`t! What is the end result, you have to work extra harder to pay back. Sorry, but those that work weekends will earn even more doing a Sunday or Saturday! No umutulo of course but this doesn`t mean they are not christians. There are many ways of serving God and you can give umutulo any time not just on Sunday. We live in a real world I am afriad.

  29. Slum this pastor wants to make people feel guilty for working hard. Zambians if you have to send money to your mother and work hard and not go to church on Sunday please do. There are many ways of serving yahweh. There is no way I am going to sit and put my credit card away, when mother has not had anything to eat, or, when my nephew has been sent away from school because he hasn`t paid school fees! Pastor nabanobe muleke ubufi.

  30. Even back home, people get inkongole to go kuchililo. Imagine a teacher in Nakonde gets a phone call to go to Chililabombwe because his mother has died! Yes the call comes on 17th of the month. The poor teacher is broke but he has to go kuchililo. What happens, inkongole. Be realistic pastor.

  31. Many Zambians in diaspora beside their studies work day in day out..trying to fight the artificial poverty created by greedy ,pot bellied brainless politicians. While the rest are busy sipping Utujiliji Then you so called men of God start to create theories to provoke us.Do know how much money Zambians send home to alleviate that poverty.Do you know how much less sleeping time we experience, working in the dark cold just to sustain families later on put something in your offering baskets-Read your Bible well,The Zambian community in Norway which I am part of is a family of responsible citizens.half of them go to church, most of us stay home usually with a 6pack tryin to fight boredom. These guys you see in the picture and many other Zambians elsewhere are doing alot for Mother Zambia-AMEN

  33. What suprises me with this topic and the picture is to know the relationship between the story and the photo, because I am shocked to find that the picture used in this case is from our independence celebration in Oslo Norway, and I can even see myself on the photo as I happen to be there and meet my fellow Zambians. And that was this year of 2009. is that picture or the meeting those Zambians in Norwy showing any arttitude of sicking for riches. I wonder, The topic could have been better without that photo because all over the world zambians gathered together to meet and reflect the passed year. I feel offended with this photo used here. Because I am just a poor Zambian trying to make ends meet in my country while freezing here in Norway.
“Ala mulesela Icabu cakale cilabumsha ubwato…

  34. I mean Mulesela pantu icibemba cisosa ati ” ICABU CAKALE CILABUNSHA UBWATO” It just simply means that the old hurbour or the old shore capsizes the boat.

  35. #36 don’t take offence this bishop’s scriptural integriy is questionable. He is the same bishop that posted articles on here for zambians to go back to zambia because apparently thats where their relationship with Yahweh will prosper. This is the kind of bishop that leads his flock into abject poverty because of his dangerous opinions which am sure his clouded brain tells him come from above. Using that picture is in bad taste.

  36. Thanks # 38 called slamdog shalaz, I will call you slamlady shaws, I get your point, Good girl, I let that paster live in the past.

  37. Zoona MULESELA #36/37, I ve liked your insoselo ya mu cibemba. My bululu, also Uwa ingila mumushitu, tomfwa nswaswa.
Let the “bishop” enjoy the tithe in America.

  38. I think the man of God is not on the same page with us, the people in the Diaspora. Two things Man of God. 1. We work so hard to raise money to pay for school fees and other attendant bills so we can lead a better life in the near future. 2. See number 1.
I am so sure that when the tithe comes in you don’t make a distinction as to who is the giver, the rich and the labourers all use the same currency, well as in your locus standi. Pls give us the respect ok Pastor. Even a little respect will do, thanks.

  39. LT is good for learning, thanks to #37 now I know that “cabu” means “harbour” –

I always used to wonder what the elders meant when they said “ala munda nimu cabu..”

  40. #42, Muntuza,
With all due respect, I think you’re missing the point in what the pastor is saying, and indeed the focus of this debate. He acknowledges the many [honourable and legitimate] reasons for your working hard to raise that money.

However, he’s argument is that let us not be to preoccupied with the process of [and hardships and hardships that come with] looking for money to the extent that we fail to pay attentional to the many other things that are important to us. Family, our children, lovers, friends, etc…. who are equally (if not more) important that MONEY!

  41. Africans in the diaspora need not only to work hard but study smarter. I know of a Zambian that lived in the UK as a student for over 7 years and int those hard years he studied shipping and forwarding.. Time came to go home and he found himself living in one of the slums without a decent job. Why didn’t courses that are in short supply not in Zambia but say SADC?? First things first, If you intend to settle in the USA or UK please do not use visitor’s or student visas to try and settle yourself and family. Visitor’s visas are short term instruments meant for business visits e.g. conferences. Many zambians abroard are out of immigration status no wonder they have to work long hours in asian shops for so little. That is not quality life. The other thing please Zambians avoid being…

  42. @44, how can you can honestly work your socks off and never get to enjoy the fruit there from. What is the point then? This man of God has missed the mark by miles. If anything, his delivery has more negative connotations than a number line. Besides, the owners of the land wherever we have found ourselves work harder than we do. We just try to copy them and I think we are doing a pretty damn good job there Pastor. And it shows by the life style we lead. Good on you guys!

  43. Come on Jeston, you have been jumping from tree to tree like a proverbial monkey looking for good life for your self and your offsprings. Why have you abandoned your flock in Lusaka to go to USA. How can you love God if you do not love your own brothers.. You bloody hypocrite!!!! Go back to Zambia and be a missionary in Chipata… They have enough Preachers in USA…

  44. Jesus mission on earth was very clear. He set out to face and fight the injustices which were committed by the Roman government and the church leaders. Is it not written, my house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Jesus was a darling of common man, and was hated by authority because they feared his popularity would soar to heights, today’s preachers are popular with governments and they share the platform with government.
Today Jesus could have mourned the torment of his children in exile working hard to sustain brother and sister back home who is economically persecuted by today’s Romans and the rich Pharisees in Synagogues.

  45. so why does this concern only zambians abroad? dont get me wrong i find the content ok, but i can see its relatiionship with Zambians abroad.

  46. @ 46,
I still don’t see where the pastor has missed the mark. There’s no criticism of your work abroad, or any statement that you should not enjoy the spoils of your hardwork! The only issue here is that in our search for money, we shouldn’t forgo the other important things in our lives. What is so negative about that?

  47. @51, the pastor talks about us limiting or putting limits to our sacrifices. Now that’s too negative. A sacrifice need not a a limit (a maxima or minima). Also he mentions credit cards and all as if by themselves these are bad. It depends on how you utilise these loans. We have loans even back home so what is the Pastor on about Bwezani?

  48. @ 52,
If you do not have well defined minima/maxima in the way you live, how then do you define a good from a bad use of a credit card? Is it always worth it living an “at all costs” type life, where you sacrifice everything limitlessly? If by such a philosophy you’ve managed to live a well balanced life, I’d say you’re among the perculiar few!

  49. Thanks for that observation. In mentioning credit cards I did say they are instruments we must use in our daily lives. But the observation here is yoking sacrifices with minima and maxima. As a matter of fact, the more maxima the sacrifice has the less minima troubles you have. Work hard while you are it coz tomoro cometh when you will not work. Utilise the moment Bwezani whilst its called day, coz nite cometh when you will not work. Work Bwezani work!

  50. What is funny is that you find a student with a status of say 2 years student visa wants to visit Zambia every semester. Please save your money for a rainy day, and tell your relatives the truth that life on a self sponsored student visa is very hard indeed. They must not expect you to pay for funerals just because “ali ku America or UK”. Tell them to give you at least 10 years before they can see anything tangible from you. The key is to be truthful.

  51. Nine Chale # 43…Mwaikala sana ku Jelamani…Ichabu is something that you can use to cross over a river or stream usually something like a raft-like . This raft can be used to transport all sort of goods , items including people of different characters.
When it was said munda in muchabu ..it literally means a (woman) mother is like a raft that can carry (Deliver) all sort of characters in her children. Some children can be this others that….
The men of God reasoning about Zambians abroad and money is questionable….How are Zeedians in Jelemani?

  52. This pastor is very hypocritical. The kind who s t e a l when given a chance. Rev Nyirongo, Dunamis, Nevers Mumba, the list goes on and on. Pastor is here advertising his church so that umutulo ulefula. Tawaifyompe pastor sorry. People have to work. You are the kind our church leader calls pastors in pink suits. Always preaching about umutulo!

  53. Nine Chale ,I hope you understand ichisungu chilatushupako. The school that I went to we re taught English in Bemba..

  54. Hello, Come on Dear, We did not come here to find a better living whatsoever … ! or scout for money anyway. We are here or we came here because we dont know why ! We are in abroad not because of money ! Some of us are here for a genuine reason, and get the best education for our nation s future just in this vein, because this High tech kind of education is not offerd over there down town ( Zed ). Dont mislead People… US 13m = US 500 000 Dear Beshop give me the answer please.

  55. People work hard in developed countries because jobs are there and yes it`s a way of making extra money. If Zambians were given a chance they would be working Sunday to Sunday. Who wouldn`t do that any way? Creat jobs in Zed and you will see how many people are ready to have four jobs at a time. To h e l l with you pastor.

  56. ” Money or the desire to have it should not steal valuable things from us. ”

Neither should the absence of money. It is all fine to disparage money, but unless I am mistaken, 70% of people are still living on under $1,- per day.

And what does this have to do with ‘Zambians abroad’, or the party at the Zambian embassy in Norway? I’m sure the people pictured are extremely hard working in ordinary life.

I don’t get the admonishion and religious slant of this article.

  57. #59 Nkani many thanks, yes I understand – your explanation makes a lot of sense. So what’s the Bemba word for “harbour” then?

  58. Bloggers, have you seen how that Norwegian blondie girl is grooving in the pic? She’s got “jungle fever” – they only get so funky after having tasted the Black flavour. Some brother must have given her the full package (bali mupela yonse). Having tasted Black, she will never go back.

  59. My dear Katebes, Having store credit and other credit cards is not keeping up with the Joneses. Educate yourselves on the important of establishing good credit and how it is vital to success in the diaspora. Please, respect Zambians in the diaspora that are enhancing lives in Zambia and being successful without any pretenses.

  60. #64 Nine Chale. Taumfwa iwe. We are talking about Yahweh iwe waletapo ilyashi lya blonde. Awe mune nimbona naine. Umwaice balimwitila banachimbusa from Zed! lol! Awe alifundwa bwino. Mwabombeni banachimbusa. Ama fulutushi yamoneka (we`ve seen the fruits).

  61. Anyone on here who attended this function? I would like to know the song which was playing iyalengele uyu blonde afwenkule umusango uyu! Was it Kawale?

  62. #68 Mulenga & 66 Magic…occasionally, someone has to bring up a contribution like that to lighten up the atmosphere – I’m pretty sure that God is a humourist too because he created man with a sense of humour.

  63. Make hay while the sun shines. Even Tithes and Offerings are given as a result of hard work.

The good book says “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”

  64. #47 Kantabaila you are bang on! The US have more than enough Bishops for Jeston and Chaity to be adding on to the numbers. Why didn`t they go mu dwole-kwana Bwalya and save a few souls there? Instead he decided to go to the lights of America. Batata ba Jeston you`ve left that flock behind! They need you more than those Zambians and Africans in America. Infact, even our president needs you more. The man needs someone to pray for him to stay at home.

  65. “We have met and prayed with a number of Zambians and other Africans in the developed countries who have left their families in hope that when they find a better living (ways of earning money). Some ……… Text missing here Jeston.

  66. Hi Chitapankwa (#3&5), i agree with you man. So much misinterpretation of the bible in our country. The same pastors discouraging people from loving money and yet day in and out ask for money from their members. Their is nothing wrong in loving to make money. What is wrong is if you are using evil or wrong methods to make money. I personally love to make money, in fact i want to have a million dollars in my account in the next 3 years, that is my goal! i will spend sleepless nites until i raise 1 million dollars before 2013.

  67. Hypocrisy by some Zambians living abroad paints a wrong picture back home in Zambia. We have witnessed some of our nationals borrowing money from foreign banks with no intention of repaying back. they arrive in Zambia loaded with borrowed money and never repay the banks. These are the same people talking funny and wearing ear rings although they are men. They have managed to paint a wrong picture about life in europe, america or south africa. In the western world you have to work hard for your money and no jokes about that.

  68. #76 Thats just malicious speculating now. How do you know peoples personal finances as if you were the one that gave them the loans or are you just being a fantasist. One thing I have noticed about zambians abroad and home is the maliciousness towards each other. Somebody does well and thats a green light for fabrication of rumours to make yourself feel better because you cannot fathom someone is doing better than you.

  69. For me, it is simply about the quality of life… He attacks people in the diaspora with outh weighing his points with why in the first place people have not wished to come back home. It is not simply a matter of money but many other factors. i wish he can talk about the corrupt activities, lawlessness, lack of services and many more! Be objective!

  70. Most of you are missing the point, its a pity. The article is saying “GO ON,WORK AND MAKE MONEY,BUT DO NOT LET WORK AND MONEY TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE”…..in short ,have a BALANCED LIFE.

  71. Bwana # 77, I am surprised that you are attacking me when I have credible facts. You have the right to dispute if you can prove otherwise. I do agree with you that there some zambians that have genuinely done very well, they have borrowed and repaid, worked hard and earned a decent living. My earlier comments were directed towards culprits who are misleading the Zambian masses back home by portraying a fake lifestyle when they are actually surviving on debt. No assumptions mine are facts.

  72. It is very sad some bloggers can choose to misunderstand a straight forward encouragement by this pastor. In any case, society needs pastors. Some of you need a balance in life otherwise you will be hardworking sadists

  73. #80 Knowing a few people in a certain predicament doesn’t quantify to facts and brushing all of us with the same brush. Most of the time when I go to zambia many people always assume so called facts like yours because of their misguided templates they call facts. Unless you have accress to everyone’s bank accounts thats gone back to zambia then you are in no position to spout such ridiculous statements.

  74. Pastor, stop making people feel guilty. As for me i shall work hard and send money to my family. No one should tell anyone how to spend their money!

  75. Fantastic web site. Plenty of useful info here. I am sending it to several buddies ans also sharing in delicious. And certainly, thanks for your sweat!
